I went 6/4 in the calibration and still got that. There's no way I'm saying I don't deserve it.

I dont think they take the W/L as a factor for the calibration, i lost 9 out of 10 games of my team calibration and still got 3200 or so. Anyways i was not new to the game so we all have to start from some point, sorry for the douchbag coment earlier.

...not a douchebag comment, that's like 4k below everyone('s claims) on Reddit :P

Anyway, yeah, they take the w/l as a factor somewhat, the calibration games have way more of an effect on MMR than non-calibrating games, which basically means that my hidden unranked MMR is still accounting for my teammates who don't know how to use wards (not how to ward, they know that, they just can't minimap and I haven't played enough for the fact that I need to do so to become muscle memory).

Well if we compare ourselves with the dota2 subreddit then we are all scrubs, the worst of them are 7k MMR, most are playing the international in a few days.

The Dota2 subreddit is full of useless scum-tier players talking nonsense, so don't take them too seriously. Seriously, they're really really shit at the game if you've ever joined them in their games.

I don't have a personal MMR (as I never soloqueue) but I think my team MMR is like 3800~.

I know 'bout Reddit, hehe. You might notice that I said that their average was 5800, which is ridiculous anyway :P

Seeing as how SingSing was at 6k MMR when he got his, I somehow reeeeaally doubt most of the Redditers are anywhere near 5800. >_>

One of the better people that I know at DotA (Draskyl, he plays and casts) has 5k-ish.  Those subreddit people are just plain silly (on another note, because I stay away from regular matchmaking, I still don't know what my MMR is. >_>).

Regular matchmaking is funny. Last game I played, our Axe seemed to understand that farming away from enemies is a good thing while simultaneously insulting people for not being around for teamfights when he himself was never around for teamfights. It's an odd case of people thinking they're better than they are. I know I'm bad, I need to get better, still missing minimap awareness :I

I like the new last hitting practice but I wish they gave you some kind of performance evaluation or something, instead of the "everyone's a winner" message you get now.  I'm getting 40-something with Juggernaut which I'm pretty sure isn't good enough.

As Jug how fast should I really be farming to be on track for battlefury and such?  I have the old-ass Ebony and Ivory set from back when you had to add idiots and Russian grifters to trade for a set, and a kill-inscribed Ivory sword, I don't want this stuff to go to waste but I'm not very good at Juggernaut.

Farm faster. I'm pretty bad at it; I had just over 80 last hits as Wraith King last time I really played carry, which is completely abysmal. Most of the game was spent teamfighting, but that's not much excuse to not be last-hitting for most of the game.

Usually playing a farm heavy carry, or a carry in general, you should usually have a 4k~ item at or less than 15 minutes.  That's usually goodish farming.  Anywhere below 15 minutes is great, anywhere from 16~18 is acceptable.  19+ is usually pretty awful timing.  These timings are of course for anyone who has supports who don't steal his gold and knows how to stay in lane.  Usually there are other circumstances that might get in your way (a better carry, greedy support, dying), so for anywhere in the 3k's or lower I'd probably say 16-18 is usually fine.

So, I started playing Invoker a few months ago. I was one of those assholes who first-picks a hero in All Pick immediately and called mid. I muted everyone on my team because I decided I'd focus on improving my play and not give a fuck what people thought or said to me. So far, I've played 150 matches as Invoker and have a 68% winrate, 5.49KDA in (mostly) solo queue and have risen 800 MMR points (from 2900 to 3700). I'm still winning far more games than I lose. I'm now thoroughly convinced the easiest way to improve your MMR is to simply get good with a farming mid hero. If I play support, I'm betting on my teammates being able to capitalize on my rotations -- to notice when I'm moving to gank and react appropriately. If I play safe lane carry, I'm betting on my support's ability to create space and keep the heat off of me. My potential game impact is determined by how well my teammates play. If I play a farming mid, I just need to be able to outplay the enemy mid to get crazy farmed. All I need to do to secure an advantage is farm fast. Here, my potential game impact is dictated almost entirely by my own ability. By the time I leave lane, I should have enough items to snowball, regardless of what my teammates have been doing.

I usually play exort Invoker and farm like crazy. I rush a fast midas, BoTs and Euls and splitpush from 15 minutes +. I don't gank (except with sunstrike) -- the gold and experience I can get in lane is much more reliable, and chances are my teammates won't react properly anyway. I take towers to get my teammates some gold (who, most of the time, can barely get 2/cs a minute) and can TP into any teamfights and at least force the enemy to disengage. Thanks to Midas and nonstop farming, I'm usually 3-4 levels above anyone else on the enemy team.

Sending a farming hero mid, like Invoker or Shadow Fiend or Naga Siren or even PA (but for the love of god please don't do this in ranked unless you've done it before and know what you're doing) places a huge responsibility on that mid player. He's not going to be creating space for his team until maybe as late as 20 minutes in, and as such, you need him to secure an advantage successfully. If they get shut down, if they lose mid, then it's basically GG. When I play Invoker mid, I just pray my teammates don't feed faster than I can farm. I very, very rarely lose mid at my MMR, so this is the strategy that I've found to work best for me. I'm curious what MMR it'll stop working at. I haven't played Dota much lately (usually two or three per week), but I'll probably get serious about it again sometime soon. Games are definitely getting harder -- enemies are CSing better, the opposing mid isn't a complete pushover 100% of the time, etc, but I can still consistently pull out a win. There are some losses here or there, and some of them are certainly my fault -- if I'm off my game, or whatever, playing sloppily, etc. But I win the majority. Typical page of Invoker matches: http://puu.sh/9M8tM/f7e85ac45f.png

Disclaimer: I've only played 900 matches of Dota 2. Playing a farming mid hero isn't the only way to increase your MMR, it's just what's worked best for me. I literally hovered between 2900 - 3100MMR when I picked my hero to suit my team, and in just over two weeks I increased by MMR several hundred points by insta-picking the same hero and always taking mid.

That's usually how it goes with stuff like this.  You can't really rely on your team to win for you if you support.  But at the same time, every other person in the game with you is thinking the exact same thing.  "I have to get all the farm and carry these scrubs"
