Those of you who want to see a similar fortress but run by dwarves, have a peek at bloody age of artifice every once in awhile. I'm posting a link to this one in a narrative I'm placing in it (I like this place Grim, keep it going!). Those who came from there, I'm coming back to it tomorrow.

Whoever is next, read the list, and also try to make the "emergency squad" into an archer squad if you can. We got enough workers for most labors, and only the odd ones that not many use are left out. We got a mason/engraver, a crafter, a smith, and a woodcutter/carpenter. And most of the fortress has the mason skill on oddly enough... Good luck, hope to see some more humany humans get to work. I'm also expecting some Norse fortress! I swear, I'm going to use that as often as possible now... Fortres Defence + Norse Fortress = !!FUN!! Especially the giant hunters :P

Squidgen is next. You have three days to pick up the save and start complaining about the architecture, then two weeks to finish your year by.

I've realised that I didn't remove babies from the human RAWs properly so we'll still get mothers carrying them rather than them being independent and able to be locked in the tavern for safekeeping. We can fix it by removing the brackets from around [BABY:0] in the creature_standard file in the save. Should be BABY:0 just deleted entirely but I wasn't remembering how the tags worked properly when I was doing the original editing.

This year has been a most wonderful year. Highmax has married the physician and Splint and I finally gave in to our emotions and were wed. I worry that Highmax has let his authority go to his head this year. He keeps talking about mead, and rambling about dwarves. Everyone knows they're only a fairytale for children.

Great. So now he's insane. I'm real confident in what will happen if he flips his shit.

He builds a shrine made of mugs and starts sacrificing kittens perhaps?

Forgotten beast zoo?  Pump stack from the magma sea to the highest Z-level?  A needlessly large coliseum?  A needlessly large coliseum made out of mugs?

The world would never be the same.

The plague of mug-dom is spreading. My vote is a giant mug full of magma or at the very least water.

That's a bit much. We're humans remember, not dwarves. Big projects yes, big projects that require a large number of expendable workers (that we don't and likely never will have,) not so much.

So, all of the married couples are in the military. It looks like humans will be the first to develop baby shields in this world.

Most of them will indeed be in the military. Only most of the spouses will be out excluding grim and splint

Guess we'll have to settle with projects testify to the glory of our fort and race instead of just projects that testify to the glory of our fort and race that will also annihilate our enemies and possibly ourselves.

Well, if we're not getting caravans or migrants, you could always set up a bunch of minecarts that spin around on an impulse loop outside of the base.  Just make sure you never have to go out of the base in that direction.  Ever.

We have soldiers for a reason.

We will bathe our blades in the blood of beasts in revenge for our fallen nation. We shall stand stalwart and true against the darkness and bring forth the light of peace! Our children will not hide because they're frightened of the thunder! We shall take the fear that has been our lot for a century and we shall turn it into resolve! Resolve to stand and fight our enemies! We will die with our hands wrapped around the throats of furies and will be buried under a cairn of their corpses!
