Don't worry I'm sure the government will fix this by invading someplace and relocating their population there :P

Make sure you invade somewhere south instead of north.  Up north they have terrible things like um, pine beetles and um, melting ice caps?  Yeah, definitely invade southwards.   :P

Some minor updates on the whole Yellowstone Park thing which started this thread, the Yellowstone Park volcano is acting up again and the roads are melting. For those who aren't in the know, Yellowstone Park had a triple earthquake swarm last year which is a sign of weird shit happening in a supervolcano.
Well, I doubt something super horrible would happen, and even if it did, I don't think that it'd be 'OH MY LORD ALL HUMANS AND CIVILISATION ARE DOOMED!', as much as doomsdayers and hollywood would like us to believe.
On the contrary it is a civilization dooming event, rather violently ending the Western civilization and killing billions. It's also bound to happen some time, just probably not today.

Inb4 Yellowstone erupts today

At least it's not likely to be species ending since we aren't confined to only the African continent, like when the last supervolcano erupted.

Civilization-as-we-know-it ending though, yes.

*We don't have a strong model for what would happen, or what the range of eruption possibilities are.

*Consequences would never be the same again. The blast could be entirely limited to America with no ash entering the upper atmosphere or even leaving American skies, the world economy asplode. Internet: Rekts. Pandemonium.

We also don't have any REAL indication that the Yellowstone 'Super Volcano" will even be a singular eruption causing untold destruction.  That entire area is highly volatile yes, but it is also very possible that the eruption would manifest as many smaller volcanoes in a concentrated area.  The simple fact is that we have no current or historical baseline to assess the effects or even the form of such an event.

I like how it's close to the northern border yet Mexico got off more ashes than Canada. It's like mother Earth doesn't hate them or something.

Isn't that just the heavier stuff? There's still a good deal of lighter particles that will spread around the globe and stick around for a while.

Where I live in Southern California might escape the ashfall, buuut, even if it does the smaller 630,000 years ago one, there's probably a fuzzy border where I could get some of the lighter ashfall.
