No modpacks, but I typically use prepare carefully, all of combat realism, and sometimes other things.

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

I heard those were non-hostile unless you get to close or something. Is it right next to your base?

I'd refrain from using that joke or mentioning that ever again for giant cave spiders are something most dwarves fear.

So, I'm playing with the combat overhaul mod.

And Jesus fuck does it make minigun-toting centipedes stupidly hard. The minigun's nowhere near as inaccurate, fires at a far more realistic rate, and unloads what looks like it's probably in the realm of 100+ bullets in one burst. ANYTHING that stands in the way is just shredded to bits.
EMP shotgun shells, mortars and grenades are your best friend for that. They last a good while longer.

Aren't firepoppers part of the base game? Pretty cheap, semi-unattended fire suppression.

Sorry for the doublepost, but I just started using a modpack called Arbitration: Realistic Research and it's much more fun (and challenging) than the base game. You start off being able to build almost diddy squat and have to research damn near everything in the base game. Thus far, I'm up to crossbows. I came dangerously close to having a colonist kidnapped before my crossbow squad shot the guy carrying him enough to make him drop the guy.

This sounds like a mod I've been waiting for :P

Lucky you didn't shoot your own guy down.

I wish I could play this game.  :-[

I mean, I paid for it and everything, but there seems to be a problem with their downloads. I have none, after one try that basically quit nearly at completing.

Does anyone know how to get help with this? I've tried emailing, and they've been non-responsive. And their forum seems comatose, compared to DF's.

Their mod releases section is quite active.

Also, only one download? That is odd.

Turns out that using a download manager messes things up like that. Got the game, now. I only played it a bit but I like it.

Very fun so far. Question: What is the preferred, most efficient, or most fun layout type? I can see a sprawling cityscape being both inefficient and fun, while a consolidated fortress would be easily defensible for the most part, and also fun. Gonna give different things a go as my experience grows, but I wanna know how you dudes play.
