Our vassal and the sea mage should be our next rp then Father. During the week we should look into psion magic.

We shouldn't worry about vision because it will turn us into a paranoid mess. Although we should have a discussion with William about this.

Oh, premonitions, premonitions. I say that we decide to ride in the carriage the whole way. And those were hastened people I bet. So much is falling into place.

You try to put the dream out of your mind, but make a note to speak to William about it. Being a mage of some of the lower arts he may be able to offer some insight in the matter of interpreting dreams.

Deciding to move on with the day, you take an early breakfast, and read a few brief passages from your new book. You are surprised to find that it's not actually a book of magic, but rather a book of meditation and mental fortitude. It deals chiefly with defending a mind from invasion, but also in resisting pain and other matters of mental willpower. It's still written for mages, and uses the mental exercises neccecary in spellcasting as a point of reference, so a non mage might still have a hard time.

Your morning used up, you send for Sir Bepher and his mage Rai to join you for lunch. Bepher arrives first, in the same leather armor you first saw him in. He wears his balding hair short, and his skin has the tanned and leather look of a man who's spent his life at sea. Rai arrives shortly thereafter, dressed in the clothes of a Keshlan sailor, but with ornamentation a typical sailor is unlikely to be able to afford.

Also ask how he finds the improvements to the boat.

Maybe we could discuss where we can get those improvements for cheap...but explain not cheap quality for obvious reasons. Also remind them of the budget that were on.

In that case ask about the improvements in general and ask if our metal industry could help them out. Also we should get the captain some metal right?

Ask both the captain and the mage for advice on what sort of safe voyages the ship can take so that we can be sure the crew is good and the ship is shipshape before we send it all on potential dangerous jobs. Hook them up with a safe trade run for your metal workers if you think it make sense to do so. (We likely know more about the state of the shipping industry ICly than we do OOCly)

"So, Sir Bepher. Rai." you poor cups of wine for both of them, politely. "I'd like to ask you both about how the ship and crew are doing. Everything is shipshape I trust?"

Bepher silently nods in thanks for the wine while chewing absently on a slice of sharp cheese. "I think everything is going well enough. The crew you brought on with the ship could use some discipline, but i'll teach them soon enough. I've assigned most of them -26 in all- primarily as oarsmen, and hired on seven good fighting men who I can depend on to tend to the rigging and other more vital duties. The mast went down clean enough, it was worse than I thought though, rot had gotten to it, it was probably salvaged at some point, but we don't have to worry about it now that we have a new sail up. Also mounted three great crossbows to either side of the ship, more to dissuade pirates than anything, but they'll kill men easy enough if it comes down to it. Mostly we just need to get the crew out there working, then it will fall in line easy enough."

Rai is mostly silent, though he gives muffled agreement to Bepher's words.

"I'm glad to hear that! I meant to ask, what kind of jobs do you think we should take on exactly?"

Bepher frowns slightly. "Without a good enchantment or two on the prow or the sail we really ought to stick to the coast, preferably in Analysse, though if you don't mind us being out a month or so at a time we could make runs to the closer free cities. We'll mostly be moving under power of oars, and the ship isn't built for speed or long runs, so it will be for the best not to wander too far from the coastline. Oh, and for that reason runs with a short time limit are a bad idea. I'm not sure how much Rai can do about the weather, and even a slight change could leave us a ways off schedule. The mother and father both can't seem to agree on who should rule the ocean." he laughs at this.

Rai again murmurs agreement. "Wind and rain in particular I have a very hard time with, I can speed us along with magic water currents, but too long at that and i'll leave us defenseless if we run afoul of pirates, or if Keshlan galleys start raiding."

"Good then." your brain goes to work thinking about trade. You have plenty of business connections with the coastal cities of Analysse, and it shouldn't be too hard to draw up a contract or two for Bepher. After you made the initial connections and introductions Bepher could probably even carry on from that aid without your help, if you so wished.

Ask the captain if that is his best outfit. Tell him his current garb fits for the day to day running of a boat, but you will buy him something nicer for meeting merchants and completing transactions.

Tell Bepher that getting the crew in shape is the top priority, and he has authority to take any action to further that goal. Intentionally taking long routes to get the boys more experience, running combat drills, and replacing slow learners with seasoned sailors from whatever ports he visits are all encouraged.

Hint to both of them that once they feel the men are ready, you may have the boat enchanted and send them to Keshla on smuggling runs to fetch refugees and supply whatever imperialist holdouts are left.
