Huh, I see vampires as free bookkeepers.  Give 'em a nice room, and build a disposal mechanism, then set you counts to the highest precision.

I also like to put vampires to use; usually I lock them in a room with a workshop and a pit above it so I can dump raw materials in, and have him/her dump finished products out. I currently have a Legendary Clothier churning out robes for trading purposes.

Any sort of crafts-for-trade industry probably works pretty well with isolated vampires. I've said this earlier already, but I was considering making my next vampire a dedicated undertaker. Give him a pick, and build a non-pathable minecart route to dump him corpses (and remove loose stone). And coffins if you want to make them elsewhere. Or you can just manually dump, of course. He can handle the burial, and with a pick can also expand the catacombs.

I made a quick little building/reaction I was talking about earlier.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Remember to add "[PERMIT_REACTION]" and "[PERMIT_BUILDING]" to the entity files for the dwarf civ.

Also, have totally not tested this at all because I can't get a single fucking vampire to come to my fortress.  I checked legends, and all that ever get genned are one or two guys who get struck down the day after they get cursed.

So.

Yeah.

If someone with a vested interest in making vampires bleed out their eye sockets wants to try this, that would be pretty cool.

Communal sleeping arrangements are vampire-catching, but if you still want the happiness from private rooms, you can design them so outsiders can see in by having one wall adjacent to a main hallway be a window or fortification.

That really is lovely. I'd be really tempted to test changing the effect to immediate CE_VOMIT_BLOOD and add the reaction to wells. Maybe impair movement, too.

1) I don't think you can add a reaction to wells.

2) Even if you could, vampires don't drink [water].

Assuming a well could have a reaction, I was wondering if you could queue up an equivalent job that brings the vampire to the well to deposit vomited vampire blood all over where the other dwarves are drinking.

Good news, everyone!  Provided you change the key on the building (I used [SHIFT_X]) the building and reaction work fine!  But I haven't had a vampire show up yet, so I haven't gotten as far as the white magic...

Well, if it works appropriately with the vanilla vampires, then they should start spraying blood out their eyes until they die.

Alternatively you could just burrow new migrants in a building with no food and water, letting dwarves out once they become hungry/thirsty.

Did you ever end up testing my crucifix alter mod?  Does it work?

Saint, you've been in the raws waaaayyy too much. :)

Is there a version of that the rest of us mortals can follow along with as plug and play?  :D

That sounds like soooo much fun...   8)
Masterwork might have something like that... vampirising, vampire-curing, vampire-mages. :P Its not so hard to do.

Eh, you can very easily check for vampires with Dwarf TheRapist (without cheating, even!). After attack, just crossreference dwarfes from last wave with high social skills and those without drink or food thought. Those will be almost certainly vampire (unless attack happened just after wave coming, then probably they did not had time to eat/drink yet). To make sure, you can also check wave before last.
