Yup, this seems like the wrong way to fix a broken system.

Redrawing the lines every census might be a pain in the ass for some people too.

I am struggling to see New York on that map but if it's larger I'm all for it (Just kidding. I like the rest of the state, even if it is relatively conservative).

Well yes, there are significant problems with the whole Senate thing (After all, Texas, New York, and California represent 25% of the entire population, and have 6% of the Senate influence), but this would be such a huge political flame-war it wouldn't be worth it. I mean really, like Super Gerrymandering+Civil War level bad.

The state New York City gets put in would be smaller, since the idea is to divide the US population by 50 and then draw the lines so that every state has about that number, with New York City accounting for most of the population in whatever state it gets. And yeah, it wouldn't work, gerrymandering etc.

Edit: Actually, New York City would be its own state, with part of it in another one.

Who came up with the new state names? I imagine "Pocono" sounds great with a Joisey accent...

I think some of them are inspired by Native Americans. I think the diverse names are a cool touch.

I know, I'm referring to the city limits. It's actually fairly small, with the small nearby areas which are universally considered part of it bringing the population bringing it up to eleven million from eight, and the whole metropolitan area (Which includes parts of Jersey and Connecticut) bringing it to a grand total of 22 Million. We'd be an entirely urban state.

How much population to a state? And what was the basis for choosing, as in, how was one area chosen as a state and not another?EDIT: On the bottom, 6 million.

In the times I've seen things like this before, it's usually Indian names, as the Ammerican names are as old as the states themselves.

So are a bunch of the current state names. People don't really remember that anymore.

Yeah, I was aware of that. It just amused me imagining some Jersey guy saying "Pocono". (I re-watched the Sopranos lately...)
