I'd say IRC would be very useful for fast action scenes. It benefits from being able to have the option to have a dice-bot, and it allows to carry the momentum of an actual action scene, that really should not drag out over 3 days and 50 forum pages (constantly broken up by various non-related shitchat by the characters that are not at the scene). it also adds a clear boundary of who is at that location and who is not

at least for important key battles, it would be a considerable option, as it actually adds some tension.




tension is impossible to built when scenes stretch over days, are constantly broken up, and dice rolls are unsupervised by the GM.


the scene would be handled much faster, so you wouldn't have to watch the thread for the entire day, and are less likely to miss half the battle because of work and sleep.


the only downside is gathering all relevant players at the same time, which is problematic with timezones

Generally the characters that would be there though aren't on either. I think we could probably count the amount of times since GWG went to college and we all went back to school that we've all been on at the same time for a half hour or so.
