Man, this guy's not even going to pretend he'd also like to partake in our community. He's literally just here to advertise to us.

I seriously think we should consider putting a stop to this sort of nonsense. There aren't a whole lot of fora out there that are tolerant of this sort of thing.

I just want to mention that I discovered DF because the programmer of a game I played at the time came here and posted about his game.  He wasn't a DF player, nor was I (then), and I found the thread by googling the game I was playing.

Because of his thread, I became a member of the community here, and have enjoyed several hundred hours of DF play, a game that like many of us I love a lot.  I might have never found DF but for that thread about his game, which I happened to be playing and looking for more information about.

I hope to mention to everyone who looks at OPs who have come here just to post their game and think 'Man that's bad', and remember there may be positive effects from the post that you cannot directly see.

And I'll mention that I come here, to this part of the forum, specifically looking for games I'd not heard of before.  For what I want from this forum, a lunatic posting about their game doesn't cross what I enjoy seeing here either.

Thats silly, I am not going to open every single youtube link I come across on the internet simply because it is there.

I need at least a few descriptive sentinces to decide that the video interests me and is worth my time above all the other videos I could be watching. The OP doesnt even mention what genre the game is, for example. Im fine with people showing off their game, but they need to at least put some effort into making me interested. Stating it is "a game" does not do that.

Yeah, it's kinda hard to get noticed when all that's there is a "here's a video of a game you might get to play sometime" message and that's it.

More details are needed, as you have a product and you're trying to metaphorically "sell" it. What's it about? What do you do? What's the goal? What's the genre? What kind of cool stuff is in it? When will it be out? Is it ASCII? Pixels? 3d extravaganza? Can I flood goblins with magma and/or other goblins? I'm as interested in colony builders as anyone else, but zero effort on the sell makes me want to put zero effort back into the research and buy.

I don't have a problem with advertising unfinished games and asking for feedback, but I think if the game isn't really a playable "game" yet it should go in the creative projects forum, not the other games forum.

Is everyone truly so used to companies trying to sell you stuff pampering to your every need, that destructive criticism and dismissal is the norm? I assume the op is here to show his/her work in progress in its early stage of developement, not to force advertise or present you a product on a silver platter.

Back on topic:

Could do with a bit of explanation where you want to take your project. There's no shortage of creative minds on this board, so I'm sure you could find some ideas and inspiration as far as design goes. Maybe you could write down some ideas or the bare concepts and there could be some brainstorming in this thread, if you care for feedback of course.
Also as has been said, there's a number of members who have experience working on games, so that might be worth checking out if you could use a hand.

Well, uh, if you're going to say it like that, then yeah, I'm going to answer.

The OP is here to advertise his game. He is not a happy member of our online community come to be our friend. He is here to "sell" us stuff, even if he's not asking for any money for it. Why is he here? Because this is a forum that sees a large amount of hits. Why isn't he somewhere else? Because other places are wise to this kind of thing and don't allow it. If he was interested in being a part of the forum, it wouldn't be a problem. The difference between this guy and a spambot is that he didn't bother using an algorithm.
