It's an easy, straightforward shooter that is both serious and silly. The art style took me some time to get used to, but the game itself works extremely well for that it is. The unlocks and the !!HATS!! are really a secondary thing.

My problem with TF2 is that I played TFC and still remember the days when TF2 was going to kinda be like... how to describe it... Battlefield on a smaller scale with somewhat more silliness. I also miss 3-4 team gamemodes from TFC, however unpopular they were. Hunted, anyone?
Guess I'm still pretty sore =p

As for the game group... how many Dwarf Fortress groups are there right now? I'm in one of them, but they never do anything. An active one would be greatly appreciated.

We kind of need a general group. I was looking to join a Bay12 group, but they all were dedicated to specific games. We should have like some mega-group that people join for discussions, consistent member list, stuff like that. If there is one, I wasn't have to find it after a good bit of searching.

I'm up for this! I think we should make sure to do only free games so that anyone can join. I recommend Planetside 2 personally, or Spring (I love me some RTS).

I'm current in the Dwarf Fortress Community (DFC) group on steam. Generally there is eight active people in chat and we discuss games/gaming news, and sometimes organize ourselves to play games. If you guys don't want to split the community, I'd definitely recommend organizing through that.

There a Mabinogi DF group on Steam along with a Planetside 2 and Dota 2 one.

THeres also the DFC and an AI War group.

Seconding chaoswizkid's suggestion of League of Legends. After too long playing ranked, some just-for-fun games with a friendly team sounds great.

TF2 sounds tempting, but then I remember how long it's been since I played it, and the thought of how big the patch download will be does horrible things to my nerves. And, more importantly, to my capped data plan.

LoL would work too, DOTA based rage incoming I expect.

Would be up for LoL, PS2, WoT, one of the DoW games, Section 8, there's Tribes (the F2P) but I haven't tried that one. MechWarrior Online?

I am so down for this. Although my availibility is often limited. I would suggest running the event for a long period of time to allow for people to drop in/out as schedule demands.
