The first few minutes tend to kill off the Guardsmen who are too stupid to duck, too cowardly to not get shot by the Commissar, etc. Those that survive it tend to last longer. 15 hours, for instance. So we're probably not particularly special in our regiment.

The PCs are special in some ways. The assignment of Fate Points allows the players to manipulate their destiny and it works as an explanation within the mechanics of the game for characters with "potential for great deeds", allowing you to save your possible hero from what could be certain death.

I did say "not particularly special", not totally average. If nothing else, we're hanging around with a bunch of specialists, so there's some special right the-*BLAM!* "TERRIBLE PUNS MAKE THE EMPEROR CRY, SOLDIER!"

And I was partly cracking a joke on the fame of Guardsmen of dying almost as soon as they make contact with the enemy, though that is closer to the fate of Conscripts, even more so the ones from hastily-organized, ill-equipped PDFs.

I know, I'm just saying our hastily-raised regiment has probably already gone through that, removing the incompetent ones.

I realized tht Iron Discipline is useless because it only applies to comrades. Can I switch it out for Air of Authority?

Who're we waiting for? Also, on second thought, having my character leave his attire back in the "barracks" would probably help with socializing. Though I suppose that was considered somewhere along the way but then I dismissed it because the current situation would be more interesting. And because the clothes are probably glued to a Commissar's body.
