Is prestige a measure of power or imperial favour? If it adds to the score, I'd assume it goes beyond imperial amandate alone, and its more of a gameplay outcome/GM thing.
I'm fine with empeoror mandating small prestige rewards for the contributed taxes but it would feel arbitrary if he started handing out huge prestige bonuses. Prestige is a measure of how peopel see you after all, not solely of imperial favour.
Unless I'm misatken about the wohle mechanic, in which case disregard me.

Prestige does add to your score every turn (which I take is just a general "look how well I'm playing" measure,) and it also doubles as the number of Votes you get when the Imperial Council matters mechanically (i.e when there is no Emperor on the throne.) Thus, developing a high Prestige leads to increased power to select the next Emperor (as well as increased power to manage the Empire as a whole as long as there is no Emperor at all.) You develop high Prestige by owning General worlds (1 per,) building Specialized worlds (2-5 per depending on importance and Imperial mandate,) or by contributing resources (by Imperial decree.)

People love the Dapperon, then. Woot 11 prestige! I count as over two of the rest of you! Well, sort of. You guys are around seven to eight from donations, I believe.

Yes, we were silly and didn't donate our entire Morale to the cause :P An unscrupulous individual might try to snipe one of your planets, but of course I'm not in your sector and it would be a shame if the Conclave shut down your production.

By the by, once I get an answer from Cheesecake (and/or get comparable offers from other Houses with Psionics) I'll be done with actions for the turn.

I'm not really sure what the purpose of donating morale at this point is, it just seems like it would cause revolution risks.

Question. How long does prestige actually last? I mean. Most types of prestige work on a turn by turn basis correct? You don't build up prestige over time. It decays like almost every other resource in the game?

I mean. I would assume that is the case. Cuz otherwise donating resources for it would not make sense. Basically trading in a very very short term and in many cases practically useless resource (IE any resource you are not specifically using that turn) for the longest term resource and sometimes the most useful one. (IE Score and votes.)

I mean. It's going to act strangely ether way. Since you are mixing something that is very mechanical with something that is very nonmechanical into the same thing.

Or maybe I got it wrong? When people donate something like five moral, does that mean they are permanently donating five moral for the rest of the game? That they will for every turn hereafter have to pay five moral to the empire or they will get negative prestige or something?

I missed that. What did you need them for?

Hm. Rules as Written Prestige gains are entirely linked to planet ownership, and Planets don't decay, so. There should probably be a rule for handling non-planetary sources of Prestige so that new players aren't cut out of voting because they haven't been donating things for Prestige right along.

If it were me, I'd have Prestige from non-planet sources decay each half-year by 50%, or two points, whichever is higher. That way, high Prestige from donations can only be maintained as long as you keep donating, and tapers off quickly when you stop. It also effectively puts an upper bound on Prestige gains from other sources.

Hang on, think imma graph this one out.

I need 5 Psionics to build an Intelligence Hub to aid in my task as Darkmaster. I made an offer to Cheesecake first since he is the only player with 5 Psionics free to trade: You've got 3, and Rolepgeek has 1, so even if I snap up the entire Empire supply apart from Cheesecake I'd still have to wait a turn (and possibly another trade) to build it.

Well I have 5 as well, but I doubt you could make me an offer that'd convince me to surrender the chance to get a shipyard.

Your welcome to try though.

I think Psionics are going to be the resource we are all going to end up on each others throat over.

Lucky me, I'm a Psionic race.

...Wait, does that affect anything past the initial Specialists? TO THE RULES!

Those and engineers, since you need the engineer for a lot of the more important worlds.

No it doesn't, it just effects what you start with.

You have not yet asked the emperor for permission for that yet, as far as I'm aware.
I'm willing to donate my psychic to the cause for the intelligence hub, since that will start making psionics. I'd actually suggest me, GWG, and Alexandria donate; Me and her donate 1, GWG donates all of his. GWG would be the one to get payment back for it first, since he donated the most.

I'd be fine with that.

For the present, I guess I'm just helping the general Imperial effort until I get a hang of the issues with running a fiefdom. And maybe I'll keep doing that.

Yes, but with all the Forges and Shipyards going up supply of Labor and Engineering will be ample. Psionics are rare, and will continue to be rare until we get some more Intelligence Hubs up. Military will experience a near term shortage as the initial supplies are spent, but they can be produced by both Outposts and Garrisons, so once people start turtling up they'll become plentiful again.

Well I have 5 as well, but I doubt you could make me an offer that'd convince me to surrender the chance to get a shipyard.

He's already been credited with the construction of a Shipyard in the lists. I'm willing to pay back the Psions as they are produced, however, or you can take up to three Military immediately.

I already informed the emperor about the shipyard.

Getting it produced this turn is pretty much essential to my plans.

Kay, did some fake math in Open Calc, and using this formula it looks like you top out around 15 Prestige (just from donating at current rates, no Planets included in figure) assuming you give your entire Supply and Intelligence to the Empire every single quarter, at current rates. You hit 11 after about a full year of donating (in thethird quarter, before that cuts in half and you have to work your way back up. Average is 7.5) In the second year you hit a high of 14, but your average is just 11.72. Third year you pass 14.5 but your average only goes up to 12.77, and if you stick with it and don't get ganked from going all out on donation Prestige you get reeeally close to 15 in years 4 and 5 (averaging 13.04 and 13.10 respectively) before you finally see the big 15 at Q4 of year 6.

If we alter the formula to cut by 3/4 every half year (i.e only 25% of extra-planet Prestige carries over) then the high mark in the first year is a little over 9 (6.56 average,) second year is very nearly high of 10 (average up to 8.03) and year three and onward is a steady cycle of seeing your Prestige get as high as 10 before dropping back to start the next year, while looking at a consistent average of 8.12 Prestige.

Hm. This is tricky. An ideal solution would be to have each bit of Prestige from donations evaporate exactly a year after it was granted, but then you'd have to track when all the extra-planetary Prestige was acquired to erase it properly. I suppose this wouldn't be terrible if you're already working off of a calendar/timeline (gave Toron 2 Prestige Q1 1000, make note on Q1 1001 to deduct 2 Prestige which is also when the facehuggers will attack) but yeaaaah.
