Wut. I didn't think that was even possible. Although, looking at the wiki, it just says that "Werebeasts may take the form of mammals or reptiles." So there's nothing there that excludes sentient species...

The wiki also says that animal-men can become werebeasts, though I don't think I've ever seen that happen. But could you have, say, a tigerman that transforms into a weretiger?

I should add that it happened in masterwork, and the dwarf was with me at embark. Scary.

I've had animal people vampires and werebeasts before. One time the human liaison was a cave fish man vampire. While he was waiting to meet with the mayor, he murdered one of my dwarves; but he wasn't available on the justice screen. Lousy diplomatic immunity.

I'd have to say that if I were to find a were-sponge that'd be pretty funny. It can do nothing but push. Time to modify my raws so that a sponge is classified as a mammal.

The kinds of werebeasts the RNG can give you are hardcoded, as they include were-mammoths (which exist nowhere in the RAWS). There are no tokens which specify mammalian or reptilian status.

Most of them are pretty ridiculous. Weretortise, weregiraffe, werehamster. Sometimes I've seen something cool, like a werelizard or a werejackal, but more often then not it's a stupid weretortise.

My fort was just "attacked" by a were-zebra. He got caught in a cage trap as a dwarf, attempting to flee after having turned back to normal before being seen by anyone. I built the cage in the center of town and every once in a while he turns and goes berserk. In my mind it looks something like this.

Were pangolins would be awesome. They couldn't spread the curse successfully I do t think because they don't have teeth and might not even have a bite attack.... but cool nonetheless.

I tend to get were lizards. Lots of them.

I had a weregilamonster the other day that decimated my forces through sheer ability to dodge anything and beating in their brains with a shoe -- no joke. I wouldn't underestimate them.

(He got away, too, on account of still being wicked fast when tranmogrified back into a goblin.)

A wereweasel child. Seems almost cute and hard to take seriously. It did swipe the nose off of a chained pig, ravaged its leg and ran into the fort, only to turn back into a human child while over the weapon traps.

I kind of imagine a bipedal weasel perhaps the height of a pig trying to look fierce and yelling FEAR ME! And yet failing, then running away screaming when the marksdwarf on the wall takes shots at him.

I also had a wereskunk with eyes that glowed spring green. I mean come on, spring green isn't particularly terrifying.

One werebeast was not only untransformed, but friendly. He just left.

I once found a werecrab and laughed and yelled, "CRAB BATTLE!!" with glee until I realized his natural armor was stronger than my iron sword and his pincers were like can openers. He insta-chopped off my shield arm (with a bronze gauntlet on it, I tell you h'what...) and forced me to flee. To this day, I kill any crabs I see. Fucking werecrab...

Not as funny, but I've also found werepanthers, weregeckos, weregoats (alot, lol), weregilamonsters, and I think I remember seeing a werecat once. Not sure about that last one, though. FYI, werepanthers move WAY faster than 2000 speed and possess the approximate killing power of a desperate mom on Black Friday. Seriously.
