IEDs don't necessarily fall into the "stable explosives" category. Do we even have any techpriests?
Nope, not to mention your from a feudal world so yeah :D
Sweet Emperor, we're fucked. Large amounts of machinery and no techpriests? We are so very boned.

(( Kasrkin are the cadian guardsmens version of veteran squads. I just like the name Kasrkin better then veteran squad.
Actually they're Storm Troopers.

(( Well until then, veterans and Ogryns, what siege force worth it's salt doesn't have a battalion of Ogryn to lead the charge?

Btw Adwarf will we get any battalions from elite forces like Death Corps, Catachan or Harakoni Warhawks ))
Why on earthTerra would we? If you want to use regiments like that, then hope we fight alongside them and outrank their commander (not that that would help with 2 of the 3, but whatever).

Who suggested that we should be from a feudal world? Were the other options worse?

The world type doesn't really matter, the problem is the lack of AdMech.

Imperial Might - Defense of Salix

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You quickly send your orderlies out carrying orders as the rest of command staff continues its work, several people constantly check reports, and listen to the vox chatter as they update the hololithic display in accordance with what they find. All told there are five people in the room aside from you, and they set about their work diligently leaving you with a rather small workload compared to what you've been used to.

The construction goes well, and by the time the sun begins to set your defenses are completed, the second trench line finished, and the first completed quickly with the assignment of ten squads of infantry to assist in the construction. As the bunker set aside for medical facilities is finished in the rear of your defenses the reports roll in, and you learn that enough building supplies remain for at most two bunkers. You sigh as you set the report aside, standing up from your desk you make your way out of the command center telling a few of the staff to report any relevant findings to the other regiments deployed along with you, and to get reports from them.

Outside you look over the defenses your men had made over course of their stay here and feel a sense of pride at how quickly they managed to complete their work, behind you a fair number of men are spread out in small camps chattering amongst themselves. Since the bunkers could not provide sleeping places for all your men many of them took up residence near the dropships, a few of which the pilots had been coerced into allowing them to be turned into temporary barracks. You turn back towards the approach as a few yells issue from further up at the first trench line, it takes you a moment to see what the men are roused about, but what you see is ill indeed. Riding from the direction of the canyon's entrance a small group of your scouts speed towards the trenches on their bikes, fewer in number then before, and with a few bodies tied over the back of the bikes themselves.

You know what it is before the scout's report reaches you, the forces of Chaos are on the move and bearing down on your defenses, the time for war has come ...

(( How many squads can the trench itself hold and how many infantry can fire effectively from the bunker along with the gun? ))

About 20 squads of inf can fill each trench line, and as for the bunker 3 squads along with the gun.

(( Hmmm ok, time to do some maths :). ))

First trench line.
Left redoubt : 6 heavy weapon squads from 1st and 2nd battalion, 4 standard guardsmen squads from 1st battalion. ( Leather armored units. ) 1 anti tank squad from 1st battalion. 2 scout units.
Right redoubt : 6 heavy weapon squads from heavy battalion, 4 standard guardsmen squads from 1st battalion. ( Leather armored units. ) 1 anti tank squad from 1st battalion, 2 scout units.
Left bunker : 1 heavy weapon squad from heavy battalion, 2 standguard guardsmen squads from 1st battalion ( Leather armored units. ) 1 anti tank squad from 2nd battalion.
Right bunker : 1 heavy weapon squad from heavy battalion, 2 standard guardsmen squads from 2nd battalion ( Leather armored units. ) 1 anti tank squad from 2nd battalion.
Between the bunkers : The entire command battalion minus the 2 commissar's and the chimera.  3 guardsmen squads from 1st battalion ( Flak armor. ) 2 anti tank squads from heavy battalion. Request the storm troopers remain in this position.
Right trench between bunker and redoubt : 4 guardsmen squads from 1st battalion ( Flak armor ),Suggest Commissar-General Kalman join them to inspire the troops, 1 anti tank squad from heavy battalion.
Left trench between bunker and redoubt : 4 guardsmen squads from 2nd battalion ( Flak armor )Suggest Cadet Commissar Malkom join them to inspire the troops, 1 anti tank squad from heavy battalion.

Redoubts are to hold fire until the enemies main assault is incoming to keep it's numbers hidden, main line is to hold fire until the enemy comes within effective firing range then open up with massed volleys, snipers to begin killing enemy officers and champions the moment they come within range.

Fall back out of the line central units first if the enemy gets within 20 meters, heavy artillery bombardment is to be fired to slow or pin the enemy while the line is abandoned using the tunnels.

Inform command in orbit that we're about to be engaged by chaos forces, request additional forces again or orbital fire support.

I'll leave the second line until it comes up. It adds up to roughly 20 squads in the trenches counting the 3 officers and the personal guard and stormtroopers as smaller units since numbers tend to be smaller.
Anti armor on redoubts, bunkers and in the line, snipers on the redoubts, officers  on both flanks and the center, leather armored units have the positions with better cover, flak armored have the trench line. The elite units are in the center to split the attack.

You cannot actually command the Commissar-General, his stormtroopers, or the Cadet Commissar due to them being outside of your power, above your rank, or under the control of someone above your rank. They will choose where to go under their discretion as Commissars.

I changed the instructions for those 3 units into suggestions/requests. Anything else I need to change? ))

Nope, just that any requests for orbital bombardment or additional forces from Orbital Command will do nothing :P

(( Hey it was worth a shot lol, I might have got lucky and had the entire chaos army bombarded from orbit ;).

Nothing to do now I guess but sit back, relax and hope the guardsmen can shoot straight.

Oh I forgot one order.))

Basilisks are to be split into 2 units of 4 and cover the flanks firing focused barrages on any large enemy concentrations, mortars are to shell the entire enemy force aiming for large concentrations.

If the first line is to be abandoned all artillery is to fire at will until the line is reformed in the second trench then return to selective fire.

No update today, or tomorrow as I'll be busy with something, but I'll get the update up Sunday if we got a few more suggestions or at least a general agreement to go with Alex's plan.

You usually post first, and cover all the bases while you're at it, so there's no need.

As he said. Wait, I could have sworn Gervassen had found this thread - he might have another plan, but else Alex`s sounds solid to me. So yeah, +1 to Alex plan from me.

Just make sure that the artillery is also able to fall back if needed - and that such orders are given timely. Depending on the matter of our engineers - As I doubt that they would do much besides getting themselves killed, I would want some of them on stand-by at the artillery, while some others prepare positions for the fall-back-artillery (If they need such. But an even plot of land goes a long way, I guess). Just as precaution.

Edit: Good thinking there Harbringer - We want those scouts keeping track of the battlefield, lest those heretics pull a fast one on us with whatever they got up their arsenal and sleeves. Do not let them engange in combat, unless directly ordered by us or self-defence upon discovery.
