Will they? Or will they see a weakness and go for it? If they can see it that easily, we're boned anyway. And is it about buying time or slaughtering as many of them as possible in order to fend off their assault?

(( Time, they have us outnumbered on a scale we can't hope to beat if the chaos infection has spread as quickly as is normal. All we can hope to do is hold them back long enough to complete our mission.

In that regard we can not afford to throw men away and trust me on this, you don't slaughter chaos into running. You slaughter chaos and all you are doing is feeding them, they will use the blood to bring forth daemons to posses marines or outright summon daemons against us. The fewer we have to kill to hold the line the better. Chaos rituals all rely on blood sacrifice through battle.

We're 1 under supplied regiment, even if we survived the battle we'd run out of ammo before they run out of men to throw at us and we do not want to get into a melee with chaos.

Besides they're chaos, they come from the warp. Better for them to die fighting us then fail and return alive. Daemons are not forgiving types.  ))

Its better not to have the enemy's folly to be the lynchpin of our primary defence. Plus Alex is right. We can't fight Chaos using attrition. Our goal here is to buy time.

-1 to Rolep on this one.

(( Attrition requires you to have 1 of 2 advantages. Superior numbers, or superior quality troops. We have neither.

Btw Adwarf which legion are these chaos from? Is it one of the major legion or just a generic one? The legion tells us a lot about the way they'll behave. ))

(( Thats good for us, a new cult means very low numbers of true chaos marines. ))

What? They'd have to collect the blood or have the ritual in mind with Daemons ready or otherwise be prepared; besides, how do you even know it's Khorne? I do know Warhammer 40k, I just don't know IG equipment that well. If we're just gonna die, then there's no point anyway.

Besides, do you know how heretical it is to think that? "Let's not kill the chaos worshippers trying to kill us!"

I didn't realize the Chaos infestation was large enough that it was just a holding action. In that case, we should just build the bunkers by the artillery emplacements.

(( Doesn't need to be, as long as they begin the ritual blood shed in the area feeds it, I'd be shocked if they haven't already begun working on some form of ritual. Daemons are chaos's ultimate weapon after all.

I didn't say don't kill them, I said we don't throw away our men just to kill a few of them, maintaining our men is more important, can't kill the enemy if they die. ))

Warcry
"Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Skull Throne! Death to the False Emperor!"

"Make war upon the Imperium of Man? What is it you think the Legions have been doing for the last ten thousand years? War does not end with a single victory or a single planet. It is an eternal creature that outlives men and their tiny triumphs."
— Arzyn the Silencebringer, warrior of the World Eaters

The World Eaters are one of the Traitor Legions of Chaos Space Marines who now inhabit the Warp rift known as the Eye of Terror in the Imperium of Man's Segmentum Obscurus. The World Eaters, originally known as the War Hounds, were also once the XII Legion of the twenty First Founding Space Marine Legions, and one of the first to betray the Emperor of Mankind for the service of Chaos and the Warmaster Horus. This Legion was a collection of nearly inhuman monsters long before Horus became corrupted and monsters they would remain, only with what little remained of their restraint and their humanity stripped away after their fall to Chaos. The World Eaters are now the dedicated servants of the Blood God Khorne.

(( Sorry thought you knew or I'd have added it in earlier. Basically, the more blood we spill the worse things are going to become for us. If we don't get the heck out of here or get space marine reinforcements. ))

Actually no Alexandria, the blood only empowers Khorne not the warriors so technically you can kill as much as you like and the forces you fighting won't get any stronger unless Khorne decides to bless one of them all of the sudden which ain't gonna happen.

Also, lasguns are energy weapons and have been depicted as cauterising wounds.

(( Bolters, bayonnete and artillery all causes blood and after the world eater I was unsure if that meant we'd be seeing khorne in some form. I figured better to be safe then sorry where the blood god is concerned. Especially with world eaters around those things are a walking nightmare. ))

Have the 16 engineer squads, plus the 8 guardsmen squads of the artillery battalion build a 10 foot high turf wall 50 feet behind the third trench, make it wide enough for the heavy cannon to be placed on top, no gate. Use the bunker material on the top for firing slots for cannons, infantry and artillery that will provide cover.

Build tunnels from the 3rd trench redoubts to behind the wall and mine them to collapse with any explosive we have left.

Move the basalisk onto the wall in firing positions as sections are completed.

When falling back from the first line auto cannons are to go first while infantry units hold the redoubts and bring up the rear, ensure all usable weapons, armor and ammo are stripped from the dead before treating.

(( This leaves us enough men to fully man the 2nd line not including survivors from the 1st line and will be close enough to fire down over 3rd line so when we reach it our entire infantry force can be brought into the fight, engineers included. It'll be the final reserve if all else fails we stick every man left onto the wall and hope it holds long enough. ))
