This is definitely not the world we know from Undertale. I think this might be a new timeline, possibly created by either Asriel or Chara when they achieved godlike power in their respective endings.

I don't know the reason behind it, but yeah this is definitely a new timeline or alternate universe. Even with all the familiar characters there are just too many deviations for it to be sometime in the future of the standard Undertale timeline.

Further on that, Gerson is dead in this universe. He was a shopkeeper down below in the last game, and was rumored to be a bad ass. I miss him now. ;.;

I will say that this game isn't as good as Undertale... Yet. But I love that he's mixing things up a little, and there were a LOT of cool little moments sprinkled throughout. Like visiting Flower King and seeing 'Dad'. It might have made me squeal a little. I honestly can't wait to see what he's got planned for the rest of Deltarune. This has got potential.

The bonus boss was also pretty cool, if not a bit cryptic. Not as tough as Sans, but he's also the only boss that managed to cause me a Game Over, and from what I can tell there is no penalty from choosing to fight him. If any of you guys want to fight him, maybe try riding some elevators until you get an interesting idea on where to go next.

Oooh, I liked that. When I started it, I expected some creepypasta. And I kept expecting that right up until Kris woke up.
Then I stepped into a classroom, and a bit later realized that the background music was cheery piano music. Which made me paranoid.

Then I realized that what I was playing was a whole damn game. Then I realized it wasn't going to stop at the end of the first area.
Then much later I was surprised AGAIN that I was allowed to walk around the whole town and talk to everyone.

Then I decided I was done and my character's body decided to rip her own soul out and draw a knife.

Also, someone on Toby's twitter pointed out that where deltarune is an anagram of undertale, deltarune's world is essentially an "anagram" of undertale's world. Seems like an apt way to describe it.

I quite liked the optional boss. Never managed to perfect dodging the whirly clubs, but he was fun and wasn't super hard to defeat.

I thought that the ending song having real vocals with it was a nice touch, even if it was short. I'm a sucker for vocal credits songs, though. Instantly made me like that one game with the cheery piano music in the classroom more at the ending. Because it reminded me of portal.

Agreed on it not being as good as undertale, but I honestly don't know how I'd have felt about undertale either if it ended where the demo did. Obviously chapter 1 of deltarune is a lot more fleshed out than undertale's demo, but I wouldn't be too surprised if future chapters have a much different feel to the first.

I can still knock it though; the "real world" sections of deltarune are both a bit boring and way too hamfisted with shoving undertale down your throat. It almost felt fanfic-y. I want to see less of that. Toby's greatest asset is character design, and I think he needs to stick with it. Meeting and getting to know Ralsei and Susie absolutely nailed the magic that Undertale tapped into. Seeing all the old undertale characters presented in such a flat "remember this meme" manner didn't hit the mark and only detracted from the experience.

I sorta agree, though I'll give the benefit of the doubt because I think Toby was doing something intentional there.

It's not super obvious before you return to the overworld that this isn't the same world as Undertale. But there's something kinda tense as you explore and notice the characters seem kinda off (since your expectations are primed for it still being Undertale). And for me at least, even after realizing this was a different world, I still felt tension building as I explored around and more details differed from Undertale. The experience is clearly designed for people that have already played Undertale, and I think there's a reason that tension gets built. For more than just the Chara reveal.

Something's not right with this world, on a fundamental level. I think what's real and what's false is gonna be a major theme in Delta Rune.

As soon as I saw Alphys's glowing review of Mew Mew 2 I understood that the entire town sequence was an attempt to get you to realize something's wrong. Undyne not knowing Alphys? Could just be circumstance. Alphys liking Mew Mew Kissy Cutie 2? Impossible. Something's fucked.

I agree, the entire town is just off. Did anyone else think the background music for the end town was just slightly creepy? Including that Kris has actually gotten less creepy and nicer after the anomoly.
 Also, didn't Chara say at the end of the Genocide route in Undertale, something about destroying that world and moving on to the next? I think this is the next.

Have any of you noticed that there is no Genocide route here?


Oh, and I really like Noelle, There had better be at least an option to set her and Susie up in the full game.

Well it's not surprising. "Your choices don't matter" was pretty well hammered in during this game.  The bigger question is "Why?" though, why are your choices no longer mattering?

While I generally agree that Delta Rune isn't quite as good as Undertale (though I'm certainly going to give future installments their fair shake!), I did feel that DR did one thing way better than UT:

Hugs.

You get a nice hug from Toriel after arriving at school. You get to hug both the dummy and Ralsei. If you wander into Asgore's store after getting back to the real world, he gives Kris a great big bear hug! On this metric, if nothing else, Delta Rune is the superior game.

Somewhat strange that with choices not mattering, there are two different endings to the boss battle. Signs of a "Screw Destiny" in the future?
Also, Noelle is probably going to become a main character. Or die. Or both.
