I can think of it happening a few times with things other than sex/nudity: the epic and ongoing SJW rage over the lack of black people in a certain popular RPG series inspired by the history of a country with almost literally no black people,

Whats the name of RPG ??
And you can always count on SJW to provide some epic butthurt.
But that being said, lack of black people is pretty stupid - its not some magical creature, its just human with certain melatonine count so if universe resembles Earth in any way ( round planet, equatorial inhabited regions etc ) it should have black people in some form.

The Witcher series, namely Witcher 3, because that's the one that's currently relevant.

There are a few dumb things about the "controversy".
First, the selection of that one particular game to serve as their ongoing example of "#GamesSoWhite" (that was a real hashtag campaign, by the way) is bizarre at best and part of some conspiracy against it at worst.
Second, the game's fantasy setting is inspired by a variety of European, especially Slavic/Polish, myths and stories, so having the Token Black in there would be like having one out-of-place white guy in a game based on African tribal mythology.
Third, there are supposed to be non-white humans in the world, and I believe they appeared a few times in previous games and in the upcoming DLC; however, as in the real middle ages, they don't travel to the Europe-analogue serving as the main setting in particularly large numbers.
Fourth, the "Witcher 3 needs black people" crowd loves to cite as their source a very specific Tumblr blog called "MedievalPOC" which uses medieval European paintings, often of scenes set in the Middle East or Africa proper, and portraits of relatively dark-skinned Europeans (Italians, Spaniards, Greeks) in poor lighting as proof that medieval Europe was literally as racially diverse as the modern US.

EDIT: Actually went to check MPOC because I hadn't for a while, and I forgot another source of their "evidence": post-medieval (as late as Victorian) European art of non-white people.

Obviously not AS diverse by any means, but some merchants traveled great distances.  I'm sure some fell in love and settled down far from home.  I've always heard that religion and language were more important than skin color back then.

From what I've read, you can blame the Romans for a lot of that. You tend to cause quite a shake-up in terms of distribution of populations when you conquer huge amounts of land spanning continents, build huge fuckoff roads everywhere, and draft massive armies to march around stomping barbarians. And then collapse and fuck everything.

Though if he was... I am not quite sure the play is as progressive as ignorant people say it is (What with him being called a barbarian and him... proving them exactly right)

Anyhow Elves and Dwarves tend to be white anyhow.

Elves are Snooty upper Englishmen without the accent. While Dwarves are Scottish.

They aren't just white, they aren't even fantasy versions of nationalities that are separate geographically by more then 5 feet.

Man I hate shit like that. It's like something straight out of the novel 1984 with history being rewritten to fit the latest sensibility or political trend.

Come to think of it, black depictions of Jesus are this too. Don't get me wrong, he wasn't caucasian but he certainly wasn't black either; he came from a jewish background. Would you consider Adam Sandler black? What about Mel Brooks? Jerry Seinfeld? Henry Winkler? What about William Shatner?

Yet this is all moot anyhow because we are once again blanket painting everyone by skin color even when it doesn't make sense to.

I really do too, but only because I think the angry right-wing rage at it might be the only thing that could possibly tank the man's career for good.

EDIT: Actually, this is all really, really off-topic, so I'm trimming my part out.  Well, except for the fact that I still dispute your definition of "white meaning Caucasian" as "originating from the Caucasus" on the grounds that most "white" populations didn't; "white meaning Caucasian" only continued to exist because the latter became completely divorced from the corresponding theories of geographic location of the Caucasian archetype (not origin), where Negroids and Mongoloids were not and thus did not.  I'll simply leave it be at that without explaining further because it's really not within the scope of this thread. ^_^

Though I will say that most games that take place in fantasy Europe actually take place in Fantasy British Empire.

Honestly when was the last time you were playing a fantasy game and you saw Fantasy France or Fantasy Germany outside Dominions?

Humans are British, Elves are British, Tiny people are Irish (because Racism), and Dwarves are Scottish and Wales can suck it (or they are the wood elves)

Sure, there are fantasy Nazis... but they are Fantasy British.
