Yeah. Gets kind of old when a modern PC's hard drive capacity is close to infinite for all realistic purposes. (I use cloud storage for hoarding images, not my hard drive :P)

Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?

Links die, or I lose track of where the image was. On Dropbox, Imgur, etc. all the dank maymays, reaction faces and smug anime girls are in a place that I can quickly access them, much like locally-stored image collection. Except I don't lose it if something catastrophic happens to my computer without warning.

You see, I don't trust the long term continuity of those sites

Recently encountered another one of my pet peeves. Any game made after the 1990's that still only allows you to save at specific points and any game that has has an artificially limited number of save slots.
Saving at specific points helps the tension, tho. Particularly in survival horror.

It's really irritating when you're done playing and can't just save your game, though. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed playing classic Resident Evil if it weren't for save states.

In a similar vein (and I think I've posted about this before), but modern games that are extremely limited in how much you can reconfigure the controls. Like, having only one, maybe two, possible buttons for each command, and not distinguishing between numpad on/off, numpad keys versus central keyboard (numpad enter just acts like enter key, numpad 1 key will trigger central 1 key, etc).

I can kind of understand console->PC ports doing this, although that is evidence of a bad port, but too many native-PC games do this too.

There's no reason why I shouldn't be able allowed to rebind every key possible to perform the same command. Well, I mean, a good reason not to do so is that it wouldn't make sense, but there's no technical reason that it wouldn't be possible.

I've been playing GTA: San Andreas recently; a PC port of a PS2 game. It averts the second problem, but I do feel that the first one(limited saves) is somewhat justified, since it requires you to return to a safe house to save - the idea is that you're supposed to be laying low for a while anyway.

I think there was reasonable technical reasons why GTA required a safehouse to save in. Not an excuse anymore though.

I liked how GTA San Andreas saved after every mission because it meant that if you started the game up the next day, you could get straight into mucking about rather than finishing off a mission you were in the middle of doing last time.

Related to saving games though, I do get annoyed at games that don't have a quick delete save game button, or the ability to select and delete multiple saves at once. By quick delete save game button I mean one that you press and it deletes without asking for confirmation, though that's only a problem without being able to delete multiple saves at once.

Sometimes an annoyance also; if a game lets you rename a save file, but then saves the new named file as a separate instance rather than overwriting the old one.

1. It's probably much more reliable than the continuity of a hard drive
2. If they ARE shut down, there will likely be a warning well in advance so you can relocate your images, which is probably not the case for hard drive failure.

What's even worse for me is games where you can't pause.  I need to be able to pause at pretty much any point to talk to friends or to check on important emails.  There was some racing game I think where you couldn't pause in single player because it had drop-in multiplayer...  Sorta like Borderlands except it didn't let you pause while in single-player mode.  Sounded awful.

Then a year or so later I got Dark Souls and was incredibly disappointed.  I cannot play this!  It's kinda offensive to gamers that the developers thought this was okay.  I understand it has optional multiplayer elements, but it's not a freakin MMO.

I think there's room for a lot of different kinds of game, most of which I won't particularly want to play. Dark Souls is an engine for producing stress. Some people dig that; I never got out the Undead Burgs.

I enjoy Dark Souls mostly because it's the rare masochistic challenge that was actually intended to be so (not counting I Wanna Be The Guy clones). It's a game that allows for and rewards highly-skilled play, without the community problems of esport games like LoL and DOTA. Quicksaving and reloading drains the fun out of a game after a while, so I have to make up rules about when and where I let myself use them.
