Not so useful for the armors since the max armor value is so easy to hit *anyway*
I figured that was to increase player choice: So that you could wear whatever armor you liked the look of most - you just had to get your smithing good enough to hit that max armor value, whether by training it or boosting it during the enhancing process.

I don't know you guys, the Wabberjack was exactly what I wanted out of a Daedric prince's weapon.
Same!
Heh, and it was even useful in the console editions of the game to level up your followers (with the bug where they never levelled up after meeting you, which on PC you could deal with with the ~ console or with mods).

One thing I always hated in certain games is how, when you're playing a certain character who has certain powers, as stablished by the plot/lore/etc that he/she can use pretty much at any time on command, and then the game puts arbitrary limitations on your usage of that power for no plot related reason. I mean, I can understand that some powers would jsut make the game too easy, but when the game just makes you unable to use them for no real, justified reason, its just really annoying and a show of poor plot and gameplay integration.

Sometimes its even worse. Your character has a certain power that he/she uses all the time in cutscenes, and you CAN sort of use them during gameplay... Except only under very specific contextual conditions and in a certain way, like, "oh you need to stand over this symbol to  use your superjump, and only to get where we want you to go!", and then they give you absolutely no real reason as to why you can only use that power under those conditions.

As usual, Sonic 06 is a great example of that.  Silver in particular.

:v!
Rolan you psychic/illegal monitoring bastard, I was just watching Retsupurae's Sonic '06 LP when I wrote this. Altough my personal experience with this has been with the Legacy of Kain series.

Heh, running gag with my friends is that I "totally don't" work for the NSA.
Which I don't.  totally.  i swear

Honestly though I'm kinda peeved that they've kept doing Sonic 06 for so long.  It's funny seeing Slowbeef go insane, but like... for a whole year or so?  I feel like Diabeetus is getting sick of it TBH.

I really wish they'd finish Ripper with Lowtax instead, I really hate how that was left hanging.  I don't even know why they left it!

Well they have to finish it. Almost done now anyway.

I vaguely remember something that Lowtax had to deal with which stopped them from finishing the Ripper. However it's been so long that I've forgotten the exact reasons. If any.

Well they have to finish it. Almost done now anyway.

They are already finished with it. They're just slowly releasing the remaining videos a couple days at a time for the delicious ad revenue, that's all.

I wish they'd finally upload an LP of Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller. After seeing SGF doing a quick play of it in a stream a while ago, I've been wanting to see one done by either them or SGF, and SGF won't do one anytime soon.

Unless they somehow did already and I haven't seen it :v

I'm glad they haven't done videos with Lowtax for a while, tbh. It was very annoying trying to watch Ripper and Rhianna Rouge when they first came out, since every second video was on Lowtax's channel and I'm not a fan of his stuff.

Anyways, I'm glad they're finishing Sonic 06. It seems like an often-played, rarely-finished game. It's especially taxing for LP due to all the repeat sections between characters.

Altough my personal experience with this has been with the Legacy of Kain series.
Any specific example ? The only thing that comes to mind is Kain's super jump in Defiance, which was pretty jarring given that it was pretty well done in BO2 (albeit not allowing to jump upwards, since it would have made level design a nightmare).

In Blood Omen, Kain eventually gets a "swarm of bats" form of teleport/fast travel, but this is only available for this purpose. I think he uses it sometimes when he's the antagonist in Soul Reavers, but doesn't show up again when you play as Kain.

Yea, mostly LoK 1 bat swarm, the jump in defiance and some other abilities like certain uses of Raziel and Kain's psychic powers across the series. Blood Omen 2 also suffered from this in regards to some powers but I can't remember anything in specific since I barely played that game :v

Defiance was clearly the biggest offender, due to bat swarm, super jump and mist form all being cuscene bound or contextual powers. Mist form got reduced to a dodge move in normal gameplay.

I hate it when an item is said to be of a certain value or power, but the devs decide to have it way below what it should be because of a silly things such as 'gameplay balance'.
This is for example when a weapon in The Old Republic MMO, or any MMO in general. Many weapons said to contain "great power" are easily replaced after a level or two.
Even worse when in a singleplayer game, such as Skyrim. Especially the Daedric Artifacts. They are useless at higher levels and near worthless in comparison to things you can get later on.

There's a similar issue with monsters (and especially bosses) in a lot of games. I remember in Diablo 2 the first boss was supposed to be some kind of super powerful archfiend but was in fact weaker than most of the monsters in the game (I think this was, personally, one of the first times i really noticed this phenomenon [although it surely dates back to the very dawn of RPGs])

Regarding what was said about items, Diablo 2 also had the opposite problem of this. The expansion pack was littered with crappy primitive rags that inexplicably had better stats and offered better protection than whatever heavy magic armor you had by he end of the original campaign.

Boh of the above problems often crop up in the later Fallout game, often at the same time, especially in the DLCs. Point Lookout and Honest Hearts both have the phenomenon of backwater imbeciles dressed in rags who nonetheless can take as much punishment as a soldier wearing power armor.

EDIT:

Fallout also features a weapon that is supposedly a shoulder mounted tactical nuclear weapon but has a blast radius more comparable to a large brick of c4 (as well as bricks of c4 with blast radii more comparable to an m80). The Lonesome Road expansion to New Vegas also features strategic nuclear warheads with the same underwhelming blast radius as the tactical bombs

Recently encountered another one of my pet peeves. Any game made after the 1990's that still only allows you to save at specific points and any game that has has an artificially limited number of save slots.
