I've got two pet peeves with RPGs that are kind of at odds with each other:

The first is that leveling up as done in most games is highly unrealistic and severely taxes suspension of disbelief if you ever either stop to think about it or go back and revisit an earlier area. It would be nice if they occasionally threw some kind of plot element in to explain how a person could go from a crippled weakling with glass bones and paper skin to an immortal god in just seven days.

The second issue is that leveling up slows to a crawl towards the end of most RPGs, instead of continuing to happen as often as it did at the game's start.

I somehow forgot about those!  Damn.  If the actual mechanics hadn't demanded such silly gaming (Want to be acrobatic?  For gods' sake don't make it a primary skill!) those would have been even better.  Still, they were a nice touch.

Want to be acrobatic?  For gods' sake don't make it a primary skill!
Tsk. Being lv7 with no combat relevant skillups is just the price you pay to be an acrobat.

The Default Art Game

Its depression, they broke up, they are alone, they are already dead... NEXT!

If they aren't going to do anything good with it... I mean at least Cat Lady (a story about depression) involved a deep character interactions between the characters and was a genuine exploration of the theme rather then vague symbolism. Heck it even helps that the "vague symbolism" was actually vague symbolism even inside the game as confusing to the main character as it is for us and isn't actually important to understand the game (it just helps)

And while "The Void" is probably one of the greatest art games ever made, albeit one that is nearly unplayable because of it, at least the themes involved in it seem to stem from one another.

But then you have a game where, for example, a child keeps trying to find his mother (no, not Binding of Isaac) and so the game is a mildly boring Platformer where it keeps getting darker and more fragmented the longer you play. Then at the end of the game it reveals she was already dead... Ohh my... how... artistic... *snore*

I hate it when an item is said to be of a certain value or power, but the devs decide to have it way below what it should be because of a silly things such as 'gameplay balance'.
This is for example when a weapon in The Old Republic MMO, or any MMO in general. Many weapons said to contain "great power" are easily replaced after a level or two.
Even worse when in a singleplayer game, such as Skyrim. Especially the Daedric Artifacts. They are useless at higher levels and near worthless in comparison to things you can get later on.

Ohhh, they are incredibly silly when it comes to that. You can get your hands on some things that have caused the apocalypse and they are somehow nothing to write home about.

Heck the fact that Daedric weapons, in spite being supernaturally amazing, are nothing to write home about.

There are exceptions... but they are exceptions :P (and they were exactly three items. A staff that gets depowered and two sets of armor)

So I'm trying to get into CS:GO
To play competitive you have to be level 3. To get level 3 you need somewhere in the region of 20000xp. You get 100xp per casual game. A game can take upwards of 20 minutes if it's a long one.

Who thought this was a good idea.
Don't play casual, play Arms Race/Deathmatch/somethingelse, you get up to 50-100xp, but matches are shorter. Seriously speaking it takes about 3 days of playing for 2-4 hours to get 3 level.

That's one of the things I enjoyed about WoW when I played. None of the items matter at all (except some scripted quest items), they're all just crap the questgiver has lying around and was going to get rid of anyway. :P

Yeah daedric artifacts tended to be underwhelming, particularly when you look at their lore and see how powerful they're *supposed* to be.  I actually like what they did with the skeleton key in Skyrim, giving it the ability to "unlock" things beyond mere locks (though not in the player's hands).  A lot of the items hint at greater powers like that, but mechanically just suck.

The mace of Molag Bal particularly bothers me.  He's the prince of vampires and domination... so what does it do?  Damages magicka and stamina.  And soul traps for 3 measly seconds.  It should *at least* siphon those, and it really ought to be siphoning life instead.  Even better would be if it temporarily forced targets to serve you.  Or heck, if it slew vampires!  So disappointing, particularly for what you have to do for it, and heavy as hell too.

Yeah, most of them weren't terribly useful, but a few were great. I carried Dawnbreaker, the Black Star, and Spellbreaker for the entire game once I had them, and of course the Oghma Infinium is useful for anyone. Spellbreaker was especially useful for blocking dragonfire.

I can see why they made the decision. If you have a game where you can find unique magical weapons and where there are crafting skills that let you make your own, then you have a bit of a tough choice.
If the daedric artifacts were stronger that player crafted/enchanted gear, then it'd make those skills useless once the artifacts started showing up, and that would be frustrating for players who spent time and effort developing them.
Of course the alternative approach where crafted gear is the strongest takes away a bit of the thrill of finding unique items. Maybe they should just scrap crafting altogether, or perhaps restrict it so the item types you craft are different from the ones you can find unique treasures for.

The Wabberjack is the example of a good artefact weapon in a game where you want crafting to be meaningful :
You can craft very good weapons and enchant them, but artifacts should be unique. Not unique as in "1% better than the best weapon you can craft" but as in "different from what you can craft".

The ideal daedric artifacts aren't straight upgrades from normal gear, they have unique effects.  That's why I was soooo disappointed by the mace of Molag Bal.
As for crafting...  I kinda don't like the addition of the smithing skill, but it'd still be useful.  Since the unique weapons and armors can still be improved with high enough smithing.

Not so useful for the armors since the max armor value is so easy to hit *anyway*, but more weapon damage is always gud.

I don't think the artifacts can be disenchanted, but I'd actually like that...  They wouldn't truly be destroyed, of course, just gone for a few centuries.  Like whichever artifact you gave Martin in Oblivion.  They tend to disappear and reappear anyway.

I don't know you guys, the Wabberjack was exactly what I wanted out of a Daedric prince's weapon.
