One thing that's deeply bugged me about Mass Effect so far is that it's impossible to back out of situations, even perfectly back-out-of-able ones. Like romancing Kaidan. I said once that "I'll think about it", and he's latched on to me like a lost duckling. After the first conversation, my options concerning Kaidan have been "Yes", "Yeah", "Sure" and "Okay".
O.o
Round here, "I'll think about it" usually means "I'm politely declining your offer".
Whatever happened to the "sure thing"/"whatever"/"sod off" kind of answers ?

I could have told him that he was out of line and crushed it right then and there, but that seemed a bit cruel. I thought "I'll think about it" would leave things open, but since that point story sequences usually have him coming on to me, and my options in those sequences are just different ways of saying "Make space-love to me, my loving space-husband!" or a slightly better "After the mission, I promise".

I had the same situation with... uh (looks up) Ashley Williams. At one point I must've chosen the rather non-committal answer but after a dramatic moment they ended up sleeping together despite not really interacting with her at all. It was quite unexpected.

There's a backout. Romance someone else or wait for the 'STEAL THE NORMANDY' mission and choose Renegade options when he comes to talk to you.

Yeah, the human romance options in ME 1 basically boiled down to "be nice to the opposite gendered human and suddenly you're sleeping together".

I am kind of happy I didn't play the Mass Effects after 1... the story was botched so vastly every step of the way. It was like it had two writers, a competent writer, and a braindead writer.

The story was fine sans the ending.

Sure perfect sense. Who was it that revived you again? And what did he do to keep you in check? Ohh that is right, the start of Mass Effect 2 is also made of nonsense :P

And that isn't even getting into how depowered the reapers became, how sometimes they take backseat, and all that.

Look man it is Bioware... That is just how they make games. It is the same company that forces you to take in a psychotic murderer in Jade Empire.

That pretty much summed it up.

You hate almost everything anyway, Neon.

And you don't have to keep proving this. We know. Everyone knows what you think of everything. We get it. This is a thing that is understood.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

The "nonsense" is that you were revived in the first place, but that can be explained away by crazy future tech. A character being stupid is nonsense?

What, Whirlwind? I'm pretty sure you get the option to kill him at some point. He was repentant as well, as far as I remember. I can't think of anyone else you could count as a "Psychotic Murderer" off the top of my head.

So I played through the entirety of walking dead season 1 last night cause I don't have internet and it was downloaded.  Excellent game but dear god why don't you let me skip credits/next time on walking dead/last time on walking dead sections.  I spent probably 30 minutes getting a recap of what I had litterally just done.  Sure it'd have been nice if I had played it as they were coming out but fuck... let someone who has all the episodes downloaded skip those parts...

Cerberus or more specifically The Elusive Man, who did so because they/he knew that Shepard was really super-duper cool (which if I recall correctly the developers actually wanted you to feel, it's why they gave you the ship to control and why you were always the one leading, they made Mass Effect to give you the power trip.) and without him, the entire united federations of the galaxy would be caught in too much Red-Tape to do anything.
And the way he kept Shepard in check was by exploiting his natural goodness, he pointed out horrible atrocities that the real Shepard could never have left standing, gave him a slap on the bum and off he went, in fact, The Elusive Man was right in not putting a mind-control chip in Shepard, because he teammates probably would have found out, Tali, Legion (assuming they wouldn't have mind-controlled Shep into selling him), Ms. Doctor Lady when he went for a checkup, they all would have figured out and they would not have been happy.

Goodness... He really doesn't know Shepard does he?

But then again a simple "Yeah he is an incredibly dumb guy" would explain away. and sure, the mind-control chip is risky but a LOT less risky then reviving his greatest enemy and basically going "Ha ha ha ha! I am a fiendish fiend! and you can't stop me because you work for me! Now I shall go and not try to contain you in anyway shape or form! Better not foil me!"
