Doesn't he turn on you in Mass Effect 3?

Can that REALLY be considered "turning on you" when he is the flat out villain in the second game?

-----

Ok here is one from Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga and it is

Gameplay and Story Dissonance

Yes yes... what happens in gameplay usually doesn't actually happen in the story. Yet sometimes, RARELY, the gameplay outright contradicts the feeling and concepts of the story.

In SMT:DDS a virus causes people to turn into monsters, no matter who they are, and knowing this you... Gleefully murder everyone anyway. All the monsters in the game are just innocent people and this never seems to impact our main characters. As well they literally have a "Get out of monster free card" and basically keep it for themselves.

A LOT of Sandbox games also have this issue, but in their case I excuse it most of the time.

Yes, TIM turns on you regardless of how you sided because Shep turns him/herself in to Earth. You start ME3 under house arrest because no one knows what to do about that.

And in ME1 you destroy 3 one-building Cerberus outposts. Greatest enemy my ass.

Doesn't he turn on you in Mass Effect 3?

Can that REALLY be considered "turning on you" when he is the flat out villain in the second game?

You mean aside from the fact that he's not the one who does any of the bad shit like kidnap your crew or random civilians, obstruct your progress in any way, and gives you one of his most trusted lieutenants? The kind of villain that gives you everything you need for your quest and doesn't actually oppose your goals?

The Ellusive Man does all that shit because he cares more about humanity as a whole, I bet if it hadn't been humans and instead been, I don't know, Asari, The Illusive Man would have done nothing except send in a few exploratory teams to help.

the way he kept Shepard in check was by exploiting his natural goodness

Goodness... He really doesn't know Shepard does he?

But then again a simple "Yeah he is an incredibly dumb guy" would explain away. and sure, the mind-control chip is risky but a LOT less risky then reviving his greatest enemy and basically going "Ha ha ha ha! I am a fiendish fiend! and you can't stop me because you work for me! Now I shall go and not try to contain you in anyway shape or form! Better not foil me!"
Shepard was never his biggest enemy, the worst you could have done to him were destroyed a couple of small outposts in response to having a dude silently killed.

My issue is more that ultimately it was the worst possible move he could have done and I felt the reasons he did absolutely nothing to control our main character is because it would have interfered with the gameplay.

He didn't "betray you" because he was using you the entire time, all he did was cash in his chips. You were just waiting for him to do so. He no more betrayed you then someone telling you they are going to stab you, actually stabbing you.

But sure, I'll let it drop. I am being pretty critical on what was ultimately a very small part of the game, blown out of proportion

That kills one person precisely because you don't want to have to meet the rest of the troops head on who you've already been slaughtering through for most of the time, gives a good punch to the side of the head of that reporter lady because goddamnit you're Shepard and you don't have time to be ragged at by someone who doesn't have the fate of billions on their shoulders, knocks out another guy in the rafters because you want to get by sneakily (I recall shepard even says sorry about this), kills one guy a bit faster when he pulls a gun on the council.
The most morally grey part would probably be killing that one fugitive in exchange for all those innocent lives, which, while dubious, was still done in the belief that you were doing some good, when I say 'good', I don't mean 'nice', I meant 'does things to help generally'.

Not quite a pet peeve, but I notice when it's missing: a "Thank you for playing" screen at the end of the game. Those were a big part of gaming as a yungun' for me, and I'm always a bit disappointed when there isn't one. Adds a nice bit of finality that a simple ending + credits doesn't always have.

I dunno, that sounds like a pet peeve to me. Pet Peeves are just something that bugs you, however slightly.

Armor Clipping

You have no idea how hard it was to play Dragon Age Origins. Every single time I see armor clipping through itself in any game it just bugs me! I'd rather have simple armor then crazy armor that clips all the dang time.

Seriously...

World of Warcraft Armor

Ok this isn't so much a dig at World of Warcraft as it is against... any game that took their lead. World of Warcraft's armor is overdesigned garish garbage painted neon green.

Overdesigned brightly colored armors look terrible the vast majority of the time.

Quote from: Ken Demarest of Wing Commander fame
Back on Wing Commander 1 we were getting an exception from our EMM386 memory manager when we exited the game. We'd clear the screen and a single line would print out, something like "EMM386 Memory manager error. Blah blah blah." We had to ship ASAP. So I hex edited the error in the memory manager itself to read "Thank you for playing Wing Commander."
No bugs or glitches, only features.

I'll say that what I don't like about armour in World of Warcraft is the fact that all the breastplates and greaves are flat textures as if they were shirts and pants. I wish they did those pieces of armour like what was done in Warhammer Online. My Chaos Chosen was so bulky in full armour, felt like a proper wall of defence.

I know "no demos anymore" is a common pet peeve because it seems dishonest, but it annoys me for another reason as of late: I honestly don't know how well my computer will play some games. My laptop is practically a supercomputer compared to the previous $200 Walmart machines I was forced to use, but I haven't tried playing anything really recent on it. Thus, I'm afraid to buy Rocket League because I'm not at all certain it will run. Same for DBZ: Xenoverse. Some games don't even have a way to turn down the graphic quality, like Resident Evil 4 (although that was a legendarily shoddy port), something you won't find out until after you buy the game.
