Fair enough...
Since a time immemorial within the great swamp world there existed innumerable trees of all shapes and sizes. Standing sentry over the great oceans of the world they guarded against ancient enemies long forgotten by the living creatures who lived and died under the watchful eyes of their eternal guardians. However life would not remain constant. In this world even the great eons of peace faded away. Soon great mountains erupted from the ocean depths, mighty winds expanded their reach and swirled the long idle branches of the Archtrees, and fire, the greatest enemy of all, once again came alight in this temperate world.
Whereas once water and tree stood against these forces as steadfast allies, friends forged through mutual need, they now stood divided amongst the powerful forces that released themselves once more upon the world. Earth greedily sought out wood in order to reforge an alliance betwixt them from before even the Arch-trees memory. As Earth piled gift upon gift to Wood the latter’s alliance with water became less steadfast.
Soon however all of the elements turned upon wood in turn. Might gusts destroyed great swaths of forests, earth hoarded nutrients for itself killing off saplings and arch-trees alike, and fire once again ran amok upon the unmoving flesh of the great trees themselves. All of these disasters wreaked havoc upon the great Arch-trees but it was Wood’s ally Water who was truly the ender.
For eons Water had taken small portions of Wood’s creation in order to nourish her own denizens. However when this was combined with the efforts of the other elements it sealed wood’s fate.
Soon forests became woodlands, which then became plains. Mountains once covered in cedar stood bare before the fury of the wind and water. No longer would woodland creatures survive as they had for millions of years. In the end, alone, stood one great tree. It’s branches sagging and bark peeling as its trunk shattered and sent it to its final resting place. Wood was no more.
