My feature burndown:
  • Skype Integration
I can see Skype being useful for education/business calls a la seminars, conferences and meetings but a PC is much better suited for that. On a console? Very little use for me. Even the Skype on my PC is only used by my relatives when they're visiting.
    BURNED
  • Live television
Last time I watched a proper TV was IIRC 2008-2009. And that was sporadic. Since I now don't even own a proper TV or have much interest in it, this is another pointless feature.
    BURNED
  • Kinect Sensor (1080p field of view, can detect your heartbeat)
Somehow, I just know this is going to get abused one way or another. Will probably just gather dust somewhere with tape over the camera.
    BURNED
  • Cloud Sync
HDDs usually last, what, 5 years minimum? Barring RROD-type technical failures, not much use here. Expect server complications. A small USB memory drive works just as well, is more reliable and doesn't give third parties access to your data.
    BURNED
  • Snap Mode integration allowing for separate programs on your screen, Skype, a game, a movie, TV, etc.
So basically what my PC already does. I even have an A/V switch to change input between PC and console for those console exclusive games.
    BURNED
  • Fantasy sports integration with use of Snap Mode.
Don't play fantasy sports games and don't see myself becoming interested.
    BURNED
  • 500 Gb HDD Blu-Ray Drive
Yay? Half my PC HDD, I suppose it will do.
    ACCEPTED
  • 8 Core CPU
Double my PC cores. Not sure about the clock rate. Maybe developers will integrate more multicore processing and multithreading.
    ACCEPTED
  • 8 Gb System
About the same as my PC.
    ACCEPTED
  • More than 300000 servers for Xbox Live (What was once 300)
Useless for me since I won't be able to afford it. It also left a sour taste after the lackluster offline experience of Halo 4.
    BURNED
  • SmartGlass Integration
Completely useless as my PC and Xbox are already integrated into the same environment and monitor with the A/V switch.
    BURNED
  • Game DVR allowing for recording, editing, and sharing footage.
Not much use for me. Maybe for LPers but I'm not one.
    BURNED
  • Online matchmaking while playing a different game or watching a movie.
    Useless. See Xbox Live feature.
    BURNED
  • Running on Xbox Kernel
    Yay?
    ACCEPTED
  • Plans for more than 15 games in development at Microsoft Game Studios to release in the first year of Xbox One, eight of which are brand new franchises.
Of which I will only be able to buy one per year at most with the current prices.
    LIMBO
  • "Xbox One launching around the world "later this year"
    Okay.
    ACCEPTED
  • Only having to use a disc once in your Xbox One for it to install, then you won't have to put it in to play ever again. If you try to use it in another Xbox One, it'll require a fee.
FUCK YOU. I managed to survive as a console gamer 2001-2011 because of the second-hand market. They were the only games I were able to afford. 60-80 € per game is not sustainable. Not to mention the entire idea of ousting the second-hand market is diametrically opposed to my ideals.
    DOUBLY BURNED
  • Not backwards compatibility with Xbox 360.
Well that sucks. But I suppose you can't have them all.
    LIMBO
  • Doesn't require internet connection (as rumors thought)
    If it absolutely holds, yay!
    ACCEPTED

Final rundown:
6 ACCEPTED
2 LIMBO
10 BURNED
1 DOUBLY BURNED

Not looking good, M$.

Also, this.

So if you take your xbox disc to a friend's xbox one that doesn't have Internet connection because it doesn't need it, apparently, how does it tell the friend needs to pay a fee?

I don't think you can play any games without verifying online first, even thought you don't need to be constantly online [just every single day]. Isn't that the point of those X-box one cd-keys we're apparently bringing back?

I actually like a lot of those features.

Skype integration? Awesome. My biggest complain about playing on a console alone is that I miss talking to other people while playing. I'm one of those people who's always chatting and skyping, even though the game might be singleplayer.

Live Television? Depending on the price, I could get into this. I barely if ever watch television but my roommates might. Only having to pay for internet + live-tv services instead of internet, television and maybe even phone might become cheaper. Even better if I could handpick the channels I want to pay for, instead of getting a huge bundle of channels I never watch.

Kinect Sensor? Meh. Not a big fan of this one. I'm usually gaming in a small dark room so Kinect isn't that good for me. First feature that I'm not really fond of.

Cloud Sync? Awesome! This means that you could easily load your save games at other locations. If they would allow you to download all games linked to your profile, this would've been even better. You could just go to your friend's house, log in on your account and download a game like Earth Defense Force (has unlockables and is co-op) and just continue from where you left at your own house when your buddy visited you. Saves only is decent, if only so that you'll never lose your saves anymore.

Snap Mode integration? Not that interested in this one, only combining skype and a game or tv together would be interesting.

Fantasy sports? Don't play them, so don't really have an opinion on this one.

Specs are not that interesting, but keep in mind that these specs are set in stone. Every single developer is able to develop their games for these specs, meaning that they can squeeze a lot more out of it compared to a pc of similar specifications. PC-hardware can consist of a near limitless amount of combinations, figuratively speaking, meaning it's a lot harder to design a game that really gets the max out of a PC unless it's specifically made for a certain card. POWERED BY NVIDIA! for example.

I could go on about the rest of the features, but I think I made my point. It's just a matter of perspective.

Thing is, everything a console does, a computer does better. Almost everything. I honestly don't see the point in buying a console anymore.

I have always been a PC gamer, but I have a PS2 and an xbox360. I got it because some titles, at the time, weren't available at all for PC.

But PC to TV has come a long way since then, and with the option of sitting on a couch, using a controller for my pc, why would I ever tie myself to this?!

Most console users will probably not notice much of a difference in their use. But for everyone else? Why would I bother?

Silly microsoft.

That's it everybody. Jump ship. This thread is officially horrible, people aren't even bothering to read the fact that THIS IS COMPLETELY FALSE AND YOU'RE ALL BEING FUCKTARDS. Seriously, Bold red 36pt font isn't enough to make it clear that THERE IS NO USED DISC FEE?

Hm... Let me restate.
YOU'RE ALL BEING FUCKTARDS. THERE IS NO USED DISC FEE. PLEASE CHECK YOUR SOURCES BEFORE YOU BITCH. THANKS

He added that gamers could bring their games to a friends' house to play without paying a fee - but only if the game's owner is signed in to the Xbox Live account with which it is registered.

If the player wanted to lend the game to that friend, a fee would be required in order to play the title on a different Xbox Live profile.

Harrison: Okay, so, I can understand where some of the confusion may have come from, so let me try to help out there. First of all, you can buy a game on a disc from a retail store, come home and install it to your Xbox One. The disc contains all the bits and data on that game, which you can then give to your friend, and they can then install it on their Xbox One. No restriction on that, except that the second person obviously has to pay for it.

Harrison then explained what happens when you want to take that game beyond the borders of your own home and into a friend's place.

"I can come to your house and I can put the disc into your machine and I can sign in as me and we can play the game," he explained.

"The bits are on your hard drive. At the end of the play session, when I take my disc home - or even if I leave it with you - if you want to continue to play that game [on your profile] then you have to pay for it. The bits are already on your hard drive, so it's just a question of going to our [online] store and buying the game, and then it's instantly available to play.

Seriously. It's the second time you've decided to use 36 point font to emphasize something that is completely wrong. So I request you to back up anything you say or promptly quit the whining.

Thing is, everything a console does, a computer does better. Almost everything. I honestly don't see the point in buying a console anymore.
I own a PS3 because I got it cheap and don't have the funds to get a PC that can run games anywhere near as intensive as the PS3. Plus with consoles it is pre-optimized etc.... personally though i don't see the point of adding all the extras to consoles though. i have my laptop for that, DF, and Neverwinter Nights. And with PC games there is a general upwards trend in requirements, so buying the next step us won't last too long (depending of course on the games you go for) wheras a console is guaranteed to run all games for it for the next few years.

And that wasn't intended to sound ranty. Apologies.

I'll add my own sources. Those are websites I marginally trust to check their sources.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2013/05/22/microsoft-answers-xbox-one-questions-used-games-always-on-and-more/

Quote
The short answer is yet, the Xbox One will play used games.

The long answer is a bit more complex. All Xbox One games must be installed to the hard drive, either through digital download or the disc itself. That allows easy access to titles without disc switching, but it also causes complications. If you buy a physical disc and want to say, loan it a friend, they’ll have to pay an unlock fee to get the game to work on their system with their account. There’s no word on either how much this fee would be, or how many times you could do this with one disc.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2013/04/06/microsoft-apologizes-but-refuses-to-comment-on-always-on/

http://www.gamespot.com/news/microsoft-clarifies-xbox-one-used-game-stance-6408698

Quote
"We know there is some confusion around used games on Xbox One and wanted to provide a bit of clarification on exactly what we've confirmed today," Hryb said. "While there have been many potential scenarios discussed, today we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail."

...

"Another piece of clarification around playing games at a friend's house--should you choose to play your game at your friend's house, there is no fee to play that game while you are signed in to your profile,"

The people saying that Xbox One WILL charge for resale are the ones trying to prove something. The burden of proof is on you. Unless you can provide something that is UNDENIABLY word of MS, and not one of a million different gaming journalism articles, all of which give a different story, it isn't true.

NINJAEDIT: All right, I will yield to Forbes. They're a decent source, unlike anything that calls itself journalism about games.
