Hmm, after reading the provided info and rethinking I think that quarantine can wait until  we get active flowers on the larvae.

Instead we should actively study properties of the moss

I'm going to provide a few links here as food for thought.

Sirex woodwasps have a symbiotic relationship with Amylostereum areolatum. Likewise, termites and ants have a functional relationship with assorted fungi.
Then again, in both cases having the fungus inside the body is rather fatal for the individual insect itself. (The species benefits a bit, but those benefits don't apply for us)

I propose we quarantaine anyway. We can't decide to wait for something to go wrong to start the quarantaine (because that's completely pointless).

Anyway, what we do know for sure is that the fungus is stealing energy from the larvae (No other energy source). We've seen no benefits yet, so yes, I propose we throw them in quarantaine.
And even then, the only benefit of the fungus I can think of is as a flower-larvae interface, which, while fairly nice, gives 0 benefit to any other larvae that get infected. And well, there's no reason for the fungus not to do that.

Let's keep them under close observation, at least. Just to see if any benifits do make themselves known.

What about the flower itself? We know from the last game that the make their own energy from some kind of freaky coldfusion voodoo. Thats an energy sorce

If the energy comes from the flower then their is a reson not to infect other larva.

The plant hasn't matured yet. Ie, no energy source yet. And yes, the plants use microcold fusion, and probably, that'll be an energy source soon.

However microfusion only gives energy, and no minerals, which need to be subtracted from the larvae.

All  organisms will reproduce. Not reproducing is an evolutionary strategy that just doesn't work. The fact that were you are is a nice place doesn't mean that other places can't be nice too, and is no reason not to move there, especially if you can stay at the original place at the same time.

We aren't brainless ants, we can clean ourself\our larvae from unwanted fungus quite easily, no?

Also, while we know that fungus take energy from the larva ( no other source), we can see that they don't hurt their health

Yeah right. Spores are very, very small, and infections are rather hard to cure.

The larvae have a lower than normal mass. They're skinny. This means that the energy used is quite high, and could result in stunted growth if the fungus starts to expand out of control.

Minerals can be replacd easaly enough, that is the larva's place in the sybiosis, eat lots of low energy high nutriant food some of which gose to the fungus and some to the Flower.

But if your adapted to use energy from the flower then moving to a place other then the flower (or flower/hybrid) is not only a bad idea but likly not even going to work.

It's very likely to work. After all, it already did. As I said before, the flowers don't produce energy yet (Something we know pretty much certain), and the larvae are showing signs of slight undernourishment. Put the 2 together.

Besides all biological energy is based on the mostly the same chemical connections. Flower energy is no different than larval energy. (After all, larvae eat flower energy)

I'm argueing more along the lines that sybiosis tends to be host specific

Spores are small... So what? Notice the fungus, scratch the fungus away, repeat. Unpleasant but not spices killing by any means. Just a parasite

It's a bit more complicated if fungus can live inside our bodies, but I expect that we have adequate immune system for that ( and may develop medical solutions)

You and the Nurse inspect the Hybrids. They seem skinny and covered in some sort of fungus, but otherwise perfectly healthy.
Perfectly healthy  and the fact that both Nurse and Body queen found nothing dangerous tells me that there are no need to panic
In fact it tells me that flower\moss (quite sure they are linked) take just as much as they can without hurting the host

They do live at least partly internal, because that is were the plant is that they connect too.

But hell, we'll see. I've given the GM enough ideas now.

Well, Bay12 Forums ate my post, so the short version is:

- B-caste is not at risk of overgrowth; other castes may be
- The fungus has a mycorrhizal network with the Kai digestive system and appear to be absent from other vital organs
- There appear to be no conflicts between internal bacteria and the fungus
- The secondary toxins appear to be chemically similar to those of Kai venom (and are currently present in venom stores)
- Assorted unknown enzymes are present, presumably for digesting things?
- The Flowers are indeed draining specific minerals/elements from their hosts
- The Hybrids have a greater capacity to store minerals and water
- It is possible to adjust Synthetic Food or have the Nurse extrude fluids that replenish these losses
- The current iteration of the Flowers is dependent on photosynthesis
- Aside from the Flowers having a profoundly increased mental presence and slight undernourishment, the Hybrids remain healthy and functional
- The presence of certain mutually-beneficial bacteria (for all parties involved, not just the Flowers) is considerably higher with the Hybrids, nearing Pollinator levels
- As of now, there is more benefit to the Flowers from this arrangement than the Kai

I wonder what would happen if we took a pollinator Larva, and made it into a hybrid pollinator; making a SUPAH POLLINATOR

Soooo, can we have a Pollinator do the flower grow dance around one of the hybrids now?
