That's something I've been wondering too.  Even assuming there's a significant furry contingent on B12, do they need a specific thread to talk specifically about furry?  If they converse as furries about nonfurry topics do they need their own thing?  And without that, are they just gonna murr and paw at each other?  Maybe it's just my non-furriness talking, but I can't really conceive of what conversation the thread could really have beyond what we've been talking about.
Yeah, I'm not entirely certain what the aim of the topic is myself.

This thread will replace and add structure to the original; the fidelity of the previous thread in regards to the forum guidelines had come into question and the thread was locked.

This is a continuation of the previous thread and the administrators of this board have given us the privilege of continuing to post in it so long as none of the replies contain images or URLs (hyperlink or otherwise), and explicitly sexual topics are avoided.

So yeah those are the new rules, and if you have any questions, PM me.

It's to show that Bay12 can derail any topic, even if they need to discuss about the nature of topics and how this one won't derail.

If you want some questions, here have some. Technology progresses, and well, 3D printing living tissue is already possible. There's also cyborgization technology, which is making a great advance. Pretty soon, implanting tails and stuff might actually become a possibility, and even cheaply doable in the future.
What is allowable, and what is not?
Where do you draw that line?
How do we classify these modified people? Are they still humans, or other sentients?
For extra fun, fast forward technology 200 years and add genemodifying.
People like this might seem fine on the internet, but what about NIMBY.

No, I have no beef with you guys, but as it is right now, there seems like there's nothing to discuss, and previous thread was closed due to the discussion of sexy anthropomorphic beasts and the images thereof.

Using printed tissues of your own to append to your body would be some wacky-ass abuse of 3d printing for sure. I think, though, that there is no legitimate reason to call them anything but human, regardless of their personal feelings on just what they are. After all, it is part of the human condition to be batshit insane, they were still born human, they still have human DNA, and they still are the same nutjob they always were. They just got what they were asking for: crazy weird body mods. :P

A body modification is kinda like scar tissue over a missing limb, I suppose. You had an arm there when you were born, your genes coded for it, but now you don't and there's skin there that isn't supposed to be; an injury you've accumulated that your body has adapted to, treating it as any other part of your body for the sake of self-perpetuation. You grafted a tail onto yourself, the tail was made of your own tissues and printed with functional blood capillaries, and connected to the base of your spine, with appropriate arterial connections. I would think that, because the tissue is your own, it would be treated by your body as any skin tab or whatever developing off of you, and blood would be circulating through it to keep the tissues alive and healthy. You couldn't really claim it's fully functional, I guess, unless we develop a way to force nerve connections and a therapy to help learn to control muscles that didn't exist when we were children. I'd also imagine that if you couldn't develop sensory nerve connections, then you might not realize when your tail has been injured, and serious health concerns could develop for these people as a result.
So they're still humans, they're not necessarily disabled by any means but they're definitely badly deformed in terms of comparing their natural phenotype to their current form.

Modifying the genes of your children to make them appear as anthros is freaky, and frankly I think that is unethical and unfair to them, as they could develop many new conditions that can't get appropriate treatment simply because you've been screwing with their genes and doctors don't have a way to treat them, and their social lives, and subsequently mental health, would be an utter wreck. Hell, any mistake in gene splicing could result in some condition that is going to be outright fatal, and some of them might not appear until later in development because they aren't activated until then.

Any adult getting gene splices... I don't even know how that would play out biologically, but if you didn't develop some funky weird tumor and deformed skin follicles instead of the neat new snout and fur you were hoping for, it's still just a weird body mod for a nutter that wants it.

While we haven't done it with real nerves, we have managed to connect robotic appendages to human brains, and we have managed to get feedback on that. So it's technically possible. At least from the brain's point of view. Really versatile thingies, brains are.

Hello again! Not a furry, but I generally don't have any issues with them and dislike the amount of hate they get from certain circles.

Ditto.  Its ridiculous how much people hate on furries.

I have. I am not sure if that section was meant to be funny or disturbing... but either way while some sections of the game are freakishly well made... this one just makes me dislike the creator.

Oh man, that was my first exposure to the concept of furries! I was all "Kitsune? That's not a real word! These guys are so wacky!". I really liked writing the love poem though. In hindsight, I think the whole section was handled pretty respectful.
