In May 2004, a giant spacecraft approaches Earth. Silent, it hovers ominously over the world, and begins to release great clouds of spores into the upper atmosphere. Rapidly multiplying, the spores soon darken the skies, and before long obscure the sun completely. In later days, this period will be known as the "Twilight".
Having reached critical mass in the skies, the spores begin to rain down, and over the course of several days, begin to clog the streets and bodies of water, smothering people in their homes and burying animals in the wild. During the "Nightfall", as it would come to be called, most of the higher life forms on the earth were wiped out.
During the Twilight, all human responses were futile. Choosing caution over aggression, the governments of the world didn't realize how quickly the end could come, and were buried alongside those that they governed. A few, however, did survive, sealed in underground bases with stocks of food and oxygen. After several weeks, the spores seemed to have disintegrated, decomposing and settling into the soil. The world seemed safe again, for a time. This is where the player comes in: you must gather together the remaining peoples of the planet, find out what has happened, and, if possible, get your revenge.

Welcome and thanks for joining me on this quest! Earth has been invaded, and humanity has lost. It is up to us to pick up the pieces and reclaim our planet.
UFO Aftermath is the first in the series, and it is the bleakest of them all. You are welcome to join in and claim a soldier! Do enjoy the ride; it's either us or them.
With all the X-Com Let's Plays around, I have been watching all AND playing more X-Com than I have in a long time. But everyone's been mentioning the UFO series. I love the UFO series. With some great help from tech support from UFO's new distributor, I was able to re-download the trilogy overnight. It's waiting for me at home!
I would like to tackle the whole trilogy. I might not play on the hardest difficulty, just to make sure I complete everything, but I'll go as high as I can. I have completed two out of the three, and had a blast doing it. There are many surprises and spoilers, and the games don't take too long.
If you're not familiar with those, ALTAR Interactive made an off-shoot series based on X-Com called UFO. The universe is divergent, and only the basic ideas/gameplay remain. There were three games, telling a fairly cohesive story of survival. The core mechanics in the three games changed fairly drastically - UFO: Aftermath is fairly true to X-Com: UFO Defence, UFO: Aftershock had gameplay somewhat closer to Apocalypse and UFO: Afterlight went in a different direction, with stronger storytelling and 'properly' developed characters.
Now I haven't actually done Let's Play play-along before, but I have been watching quite a few and I want to contribute to the medium. So before I start, I could use a few pointers.
Ideally, I'd like to record videos, do some basic editing, and plop it on YouTube. Could anyone suggest basic recording/editing software?
If that fails, I'll just do screen shots and write-ups. But videos are better!
