Defense Contractors- Weaponry Design RtD

You are the engineers in the weapons development conglomerate for 80% of your nation's military. Each of you are part of your own company, but you must work together if you want to come out on top in this war...

Each of you should form a single company, and however many of you I can handle will then have to complete goals related to the needs of your military, in various ways. You may be asked to create a weapon that can perform under certain conditions, or respond to a threat without being directly told how. You will be designing weapons, technology, armor, even vehicles by order or on your own initiative. Designs work in phases:

Phase I-

Your company can research under a topic (new types of rounds, new materials, whatever comes to mind) and be able to estimate how much it will cost to create that object (there's a chance that it will be free, moreso if it's reasonably cheap or easy to make). Your research will be available to all companies when it is made.

Your company can also design a product in this phase. The product must be made of already-researched parts. Meeting the requirements for a contract will provide extra money, however, money will be given for good designs that work into improving what you currently have.

The first prototype of the designs and research targets will be provided at the end of this phase.

Creating a new design costs 2500C
Starting a research project costs 1000C
Phase II-
In this phase, you will begin refining the prototype and research targets chosen from Phase I. You will only get an idea of the performance of your weapon and not the entire story. Most problems will be evident after testing.

You can also apply to contracts in this phase and earn the extra money they give. Generally only one design is chosen, and infighting is common over contract payouts. You will describe the product with a paragraph, and you can say whatever you want. Outright lies are fair game, but you take big risk in this as your division can lose reputation, as well as face expulsion from the program!

Phase III-
Phase III is the last phase: feedback. You are given any hidden information about the weapon applicable and learn of the results that come from it. From here, your blueprint is saved, and you can always come back and modify the weapon to release a new modification of it.

Furthermore, paychecks are given at this phase, and extra money is given for various things or at random.

Huh, had this exact idea yesterday, nifty.

Methinks we need more stats on the diff. weapon parts- weight, cost, that kind of thing- how else will they be rated?
Also: Could we get a basic description on the different parts? For example, what's the difference between a small AR body and a medium smg? What about a small AR body that uses a small barrel, and a small SMG that uses a small barrel? What are the caliber ranges on the different barrels? Do they change depending on what body we use, or can we make a super-heavy smg that fires .50 BMG out of a L-cal short barrel?

I propose we all pool our research, but we each field our own prototypes- yes no maybe?
We could always buy research.

You work for the same military force. If you want countries, everyone list what you want to be in, and I'll do nationality accordingly. Can get screwed up if if there's too much difference, as there will be bits of story kicking in at some point, but nothing too bad.

Right now, the war is on equal terms. You won't be able to win with your current tech, but assuming you can churn out enough material to fix that, you can outpace your enemy before they can lock you down.

I made this because I too failed to make it in to the SF game and thought "why not do something similar".



Division Name: Ayes Arms
Current Division Money: 10000C (-4500C) 6500C

Create a DMR design on the Light Sniper-Bolt Action chassis using Low-Zoom Sights, Ergonomic Stocks, Medium-Basic rounds and 12 round magazines.

You lay out the design for a DMR, and begin production. It seems as though basic design is coming along well, although you have to use a 10-round magazine for the ammunition type you need to use.

The DMR seems solid, and in all your testing was able to reach far distances when fired by an experienced marksman. It's weight is somewhat prohibitive, but it's acceptable for what it is. All in all, your design seems solid. It will take 3000C for you to produce (one-time charge)

Research: Semi-automatic sniper chassis.
You're able to plan out a semi-automatic sniper chassis, but it's quite long and recoils powerfully. It is, however, cheap. You can continue to work on this design and even out the kinks (2000C) or continue with the current plan (1000C).
Heavy Sniper-Semi designed.
Research: Armor Piercing Bullet
You've managed to easily create a line of armor-piercing rounds using current technology. You can begin manufacture without extra cost.
Small AP Round, Medium AP Round, Large AP Round created.

Division Name: Outcast engineering
Current Division Money: 10000C - 5500C = 4500C

(Note that research items completed won't kick in until the next Phase. You have to actually create the design.)

Your design of a DMR feels like a hybrid of an assault rifle and a sniper rifle, utilizing high-end optics while shedding unneeded weight. Surprisingly light, your design suffers from accuracy loss at intended range as well as a tendency for magazines to get stuck in your rifle port. These should likely be addressed before launch.


Research laser rangefinder with scope HUD.
You fail at getting the scope and rangefinder to work together, but your engineers offer a compromise- a side-mounted screen connected to a laser useful for rangefinder and enemy detection. The screen determines range as well as using a low-power camera to identify the enemy and their armaments. It's cost is slightly prohibitive, but the design is hardly flawed. 2500C to manufacture (one time cost)

research toggle-able night vision scopes
You begin searching for a way to toggle night-vision for scopes. Development goes well, but you hit an unfortunate roadblock of not being able to get a clear high-zoom image, or use a smaller scope body. The result is a huge sight with very low focus, but it is quickly adapted into a low zoom (1.2) night-vision sight. It can be toggled on or off with the flick of a switch. 1000C to produce, 1 time cost.

Finally, it seems you've hit upon success. You've managed to create barrels with integrated silencers, and by grafting a flash hider to that you've struck gold. Perfect for espionage and special ops teams, this barrel only has one problem- it's inability to hold large rounds and it's length. Still, you have a working prototype without production cost.

B&R Armaments did nothing Phase I. This makes them ineligible for Phase II or III, but will also lose no money or power. Basically, in stasis.

Let's go ahead and knock out the questions. Rolls determine problems with your design, so while parts have an idea of stats, they're arbitrary. Range, for instance, is subjective: a gun with a high-zoom scope, a small SMG body, and short barrel with small caliber rounds is going to be useless for aiming and have very little range, and at the same time, a sniper rifle with a long barrel and a reflex sight is equally bad.

By experimenting with basic design, you've hit upon multiple shell designs for various weapons. You can now produce Bullpup weapons, which offer more maneuverability at larger sizes as well as shorter overall gun length. It won't cost you anything extra to produce.

Your design team sets to work on a medium-sized assault rifle. Using a low-zoom scope, you focus on ease of use and aim, and manage to produce a burst-fire rifle with exceptional accuracy with ease of use. It suffers from high jam rate as well as overall instability, which could pose problems if released in it's current state. It will cost 1500C to produce.

You design a complicated but somehow sturdy recoil compensation system. You can produce it for 2000C, or work to reduce the overall cost.

You produce a side-mounted magazine holder, as well as Universal Magazines for ammo. The side-mounted holster will require 500C to produce, but the Universal Magazines were able to be produced without cost.

You work with metal alloys but produce nothing notably lighter than what's currently available. Another attempt will likely be more fruitful.

This research also failed, although you fit a satellite uplink system to a conventional missile. You've created a conventional sat-guide launcher. It will cost 500C to fully prototype.
Sat-guide Launcher System designed
Integrated Satellite Targeting System (ISTS for short; transmit images from satellite to the launcher, allowing full, 360 view)
Your engineers manage a satellite control, but image refinement is currently not fast enough for battlefield level. Using GPS coordinates and a built-in rangefinder/gyroscopic compass/GPS system, you miraculously pull together a very exact GPS-based satellite targeting system. It will cost 8000C to fully implement.
ISTS designed.


The rest of you are in, however, I will have to resume creating this turn in time. Wanted to get this out as I made it.

As far as launchers go, they don't use a conventional barrel, so you don't need to indicate one. They also don't use magazines, but you can research one, or a way to hold more than one rocket at a time. The ISTS is so prohibitive in cost due to the nature of the project and the power it holds- if you had to launch your own satellites, it would be insane.

You work on guided rockets and come up with a short-to medium range laser designator. It would be relatively cheap to produce- only 500C

You work on adding a FLIR filter to a holographic sight. The result is a widened thermal optic, unfortunately it is nothing more than a clear plate when "off", so Thermal is the only mode. It will cost 1000C to field.

Research:Compact Reloadable Launcher Body
You work on making a reloadable rocket launching system, but your engineers don't manage to complete anything worthwhile. Chances are a second attempt could provide results.
Create A basic launcher using the dumfire body, large caliber average barrel, holographic sight, and Laser targeter
You create a basic, light squad-based explosive launcher. It's cheapness is well valued, and the designs are outsourced to a different conglamorate- you make 3000C in the deal. Not that you had much of a choice, being ordered and all.

You design a very small weapon useful as a sidearm. It's large magazines are as tall as it is, and it's length is minimal. Testing dosen't reveal any outstanding problems other than the occasional jam after constant firing. It's incredibly cheap to make, requiring only 1000C.

While designing, your engineers have valuable but unimplemented changes to the design, each able to be prototyped at 500C.
Micro SMG- automatic, Fold-Over Stock (versatility add, smaller size) designed

((Your current design is like an Uzi. You've unlocked the Mini Uzi, and a little more development for small SMGs could create a Micro-Uzi like gun. The Micro-Uzi uses the same body but special barrels, magazines, etc.))
