I heard that Kit Harrington showed more emotion reading the script than acting it

Maybe this was said before, but...

Back when I read the first book, I noticed how similar it was, in many ways, to Dune.

But I just realized that the ending of the series it's practically  "Children of Dune", with Cersei in the role of Alya,  Bran in place of Leto II, and Jon in the place of Paul

Hey, no spoilers!

Actually being mildly serious. I've only just started reading Dune.

I'm kind of interested in your opinion on what I said after you're done

For me, I wish I'd just stopped at Dune. I'd read Dune several times before I was like "You know, there's like 4 more books after this....."

Dune is by far the most readable, coherent and grounded of all the books. Beyond Dune shit just gets weirder, and harder to follow. Not impossible, but maybe not super enjoyable the way Dune was.

Put another way.....they're not the kind of books someone would try to make a movie about.

Oh, this is now a Dune thread? Probably for the best.

I thought Dune Messiah and Children of Dune to be fine, if a step down from the original. The problem with them is that they change the perception of the original. Dune alone is a great experience, Dune+DM is just good. Dune+DM+CoD is fair-to-middling. Each one past that gets only further into the oddly creepy, eye-rolly garbage.
It's that effect* where initially grand and sweeping world building falls apart once the author starts to explain the previously vague notions.
*I'd call it the Star Wars effect, but Dune was doing it before it was cool.

Put another way.....they're not the kind of books someone would try to make a movie about.
And yet they did make that miniseries.

I didn't watch the miniseries. I remember it had very mixed reviews. Dune Messiah felt on the rails still. But by Chapterhouse it's like "WTF is this even anymore."

I was going to say that I liked GEOD. But tbh it was well into kooky territory. I mean Leto II is a charismatic and interesting character but the rest of the book has large sections that make me suspect FH was dropping acid, if probably not quite as much as at the time of writing heretics and chapterhouse

The man at the helm gives it a good chance of being actually good, for a change.
