O-kay.

I found that last episode to be a bit "meh", but primarily in comparison to the hammer-blows of the previous week.  There were a series of videos from last week on audience reactions to the climax.  It was somewhat disturbing to see the number of people who laughed.

So, on to this week:

I don't think Jamie and Cersei could have been any more profane in expressing their, um, love, then if they had brought, I don't know, a goat into the mix, or something.  A rape ("well, at first"), in the equivelent of a church, with the dead son of brother/sister incest lying in state--I was half expecting Cersei to accidentally pull Joffrey's corpose over on top of her and Jamie.

In other news, I actually liked Tywin in this episode.  He nailed the failings of the last three kings perfectly in his talk with Tommen.  I also got the impression that the "birds and the bees" talk that was developing was kind of thrown in at the end.  It's actually times like this that Uncle Tyrion would be more useful.

Speaking of which, I am wondering who is, in fact, trying to frame him.  I would think it is Cersei, not Tywin.  Tywin, despite hating Tyrion, still needs him to continue the family line, since Jaime has been disinherited.  Cersei is vindictive enough and short-sighted enough want to kill off Tyrion.  Tywin should be smarter then that.  Also, Godspeed, Pod!  May you leave a trail of satisfied partners!

I wonder if Oberyn will ever get his happy time?  Again, nice to see Tywin treating someone as an equal.

Sam and Gilly's plotline is tiresome.  Grow up, both of you.  The wilding attack was a bit of a shock as well.  Starting with Boom!  Headshot!

Stannis's plot line is also somewhat tiresome.  Lots of talking, little action.  I love Shireen, though.  A ray of sunshine in a sucky world.

The Hound and Arya are almost my favourite duo, if it were not for the Hound's relentless ruthlessness.  Still, the poor farmer is too dumb to live given he blabbed about his silver.  The Hound is as much a nihilist as Arya.  In a weird way, they belong together.  I will be interested if they ever make it to the Eyrie and Lady Crazy-pants.  (Actually, Lady Crazy-pants could fit a lot of characters). 

Danerys is awesome and Daario is awesome, and Mereen seems doomed.  Can't wait to see the battle, although I suspect we will not.

Finally, the single creepiest scene was Littlefinger.  Skin-crawlingly creepy.  Watching through you fingers creepy.

Hopefully, we will get some more Bronn in the next episode.

1. I especially love how Tywin was effectively coaching Tommen to follow his decision when it came to defending the reach against the iron islands. "Fertile rich lands vs nation with a strong navy..."

3. It seems to be that any time Oberyn has an orgy a Lannister interrupts him.
4. I especially don't get why the hell Sam left Gilly in a place that looks several metric fuck tons more threatening than castle black.
5. Give the poor guy a break, he brought the biggest action in season 3 for a while at least. Before red weddings there were green blackwaters, he needs some time to get back on his feet
6. I don't think the farmer was all that dumb, just incredibly desperate. Most of the river lords are dead or under siege, the North is a no-go, bandits and deserters reave the once rich riverlands and this guy clearly cannot defend his daughter against even a small band of rogues. He clearly doesn't want the hound under his roof, but can appreciate any help. Poor choice in help though.
7. LITTLEFINGER! I love his actor and all his interactions with Varys. It's especially funny to see Littlefinger always push past Varys to sit closest to the King/Hand of the King in every scene where he still sat on the council. Man's got ambition.
Also Littlefinger is crushing on Sansa hard. Get a room!

Urrrrgggh, Sam + Gilly annoy me so damn much.
Sam's character was annoying enough to begin with, and now we have to put up with this whole awkward romance nonsense. I mean, nothing wrong with a bit of awkward romance, but watching these two is about as entertaining as a prolonged visit to the Dreadfort.
Then again, Jon Snow and Ygritte aren't any better. I sure hope that lot get killed off sooner rather than later, although I'm not holding out too much hope.

I guess, objectively a lot of time passed while he was with the wildlings, but watching the show it's as though he just suddenly decided to start speaking like one of them now that he's back in semi-civilization. Maybe I just didn't notice it before.
