How to be a Human
« on: April 21, 2013, 02:46:18 am »

I've started a new project called "how to be a human (a guide)." It is in the form of simple captioned one-panel comics with a very basic drawing style which I hope will improve over time. Here are some samples:

If you like it, please stop by and have a look at the rest. I've got 5 posted already with 3 more queued up for the next few days, and I'll keep drawing more as I come up with them.

I know tumblr is not everyone's favorite web site, but it's convenient for this project so for the time being I'm using that: http://howtobeahumancomic.tumblr.com/

I don't know how RSS works but there is a link for it at the bottom, if you want to read without having to be on the tumblr web site.

Feedback appreciated! I know the style is not impressive, but for now it's the ideas I want to communicate, and I suppose my drawing skill will increase as I do more of them.

I like the dry humour. The simple style makes it more about the point you are making rather than to drawing, which reminds me of XKCD a lil. Keep it up!

Dammit I thought this was a guide on how to disguise yourself as one! Ah well, looks good anyhow.

At first I thought I'd put more detail (and facial expressions) into the humans, but then I decided to keep it as simple to make them all look as generic as possible. I will still need practice with proportions and body positions though. Those things have always been tough for me.

So true. I wonder what a species without an abstraction of time would be like...

My knowledge of the English language is pretty poor, but aren't you supposed to use deodorant, instead of wearing it?

Heartfelt chuckles, this project looks good.

Since deodorant covers the body, wear is technically correct in its usage.

I'd also use wear for perfume or makeup or anything like that. I suppose "use" sounds fine as well but it's not the first word that comes to mind.

Thanks again for all the positive feedback. Fortunately these are simple enough that I can bang out a few in an hour or so and queue them up for a few days, so I don't have to worry about falling behind if I get busy or not having enough time to draw them. I'm having fun so far. I keep thinking of possible ones and then forgetting though. I should start keeping a list!

I might add an option to submit posts as well, so people can add guest comics. Would anyone be interested in that? Maybe not just yet, but eventually.

Except this one I don't find it funny at all.  :-\

But good luck with it, and have fun.

Also the "innocent child" drawing is well suited.
