Anyway, my mom's professional opinion is a lone nutter, possibly right-wing. He certainly is somewhat more aware of his shit then the regular radical, given the bombs occurring nearly simultaneously. He acted to injure and kill, not destroy, hence the ball bearing.

Reports of a ricin-tainted letter sent to a congressman (could be false positive, like the JFK library or whatnot, as it's still pretty new).

Foreign terrorism organizations wouldn't give a crap about congress. And anyone who did even a modicum of research would know congressional mail is screened for that stuff, as it has been since the anthrax mail a decade ago.

Whoever is behind this is a US national, almost certainly a lone wolf disgruntled anti-government type who wanted to send a message.

The particular congressman was Roger Wicker, from Mississippi. From his wiki page, the only thing that stands out aside from his congressional terms was his being appointed as a US representative for a session of the UN.

I kinda figured black powder was the explosive agent, based on the amount of white smoke immediately after the first explosion.

Which again to me points to a domestic attacker. A couple dozen pounds of black powder from a hunting goods store probably isn't enough to set off any federal alarms...but is plenty for a few homemade explosives.
