Did you know Forum Search does not believe this thread exists? I know that now.

Also, the motto of Dark Souls II is "Go Beyond Death".

I can only imagine how annoying it would be if, every time you die, you had to go through some kind of trial or through a certain area of the game just to get to a portal of some kind which revives you at the last bonfire.

I just hope they fix the parry ability. It doesn't coincide with the animations, weapon dimensions, or anything visible, so it is ridiculously difficult to learn yet it can block all damage from most anything in the game. I'd rather it actually matched up with animations so it's easier to grasp and didn't break the game.

It does match up with the animations (in DaS), you just have to parry the hand instead of the weapon.

Yeah, it does match up, it's just that it doesn't take the reach of weapons into account. I've yet to see a game that actually had perfect bounding boxes around every single polygon, so it's no huge surprise.

Parrying isn't all that necessary, though. You'll usually be fine by just circling around normal enemies until you can get a backstab off, which I kinda hope they change in DaS2 - it's way too simple.

Considering that the demo showcased an enemy that will crush you if you try to backstab it, yeah, I'd say they're changing it.

Regarding backstabs, I read that their solution to the circus that is PvP is an enchanted ring that makes you immune. And now that I've said that I can't find where I read that in any archive. Was pulled from an interview regarding DaS2.

Really? The guides I've seen show it's about lining up the invisible frames that the parry is active, and when the game registers damage to you. Has painfully visible disconnects in the animations, and you have to start the parry preemptively. So you have to just memorize when you'll take damage for an animation, and how long before your parry is active, and then line them up. I have not tried watching the hand.

Yeah, the window for the actual counter attack is tiny and when you miss it, the whole thing just looks awkward.

TotalBiscuit covered something fairly interesting in his latest Content Patch.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=538551 - the thing he references

This is probably something that should happen more often, it seems making a game high fidelity (or whatever) and then downgrading it to work on consoles makes more sense than keeping all the resources and such limited to 7 year old hardware. I never played Dark Souls with a keyboard and mouse, seemed more like a controller type of game to me (and it was designed with that in mind) but I heard that those who, for whatever reason, do not have a controller got pretty screwed from the bad control translation. Maybe this will fix that problem... but I'm still going to be playing it with my Logitech.

The thing is it doesn't have a 'next generation console' focus, probably because current ones have been around so long that developers have been able to use all sorts of tricks to improve the graphics quality (smaller FoV, guns taking up half the screen etc.) with the current hardware. DS looked pretty alright to me, but then again the first time around I was playing on a TV, then when my PS3 died I got it on PC with it superscaled to render at 2560x1440 on my 1680x1050 monitor...

In any case, hopefully this resolves the controller issues and perhaps any hardware issues people may have had previously...

Oh yes, 60 frames per second. *fist pump*. Framerate is actually is a pretty big deal, especially in terms of control responsiveness and fluidity of moving images (i.e. games).

Damn, I was hoping to play it this year. Oh well, better that than a rushed job. If it's good, I can wait for it.
