There is a background radiation of insults on the internet in general. I haven't really seen women singled out as targets of it.

Yeah, basically.  She also undermines her point by including a lot of tweets that aren't really misogynistic in any meaningful way.

14/50 weren't explicitly misogynistic, by my count. Call it 15, in case of counting errors. Literally all of those were just "shut up" and nonsense assertions that nobody cares, and I can't believe that anything but misogyny was the motivation, given what they were responding to.

Then you're not paying attention. Which is fine, in general - I'm a big fan of "Don't read the comments section", myself. It's just that makes it hard to participate in a discussion on the subject.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Reading the comment section is awesome. Especially when there are US conservatives to be found in them xD

I'm still not seeing it. There are plenty of men on the internet who also get this kind of abuse, because it's the internet. Land of anonymous insults. People have created fake pornograhy accounts under the name of thunderf00t; and photoshopped him into pornographic images. People have threatened to come after his family and shown that they know personal details of his family. Because he posts opinions on the internet and is popular. So they try to get to him with threats.
With Anita, she is putting out opinions of a thing that personally offends her, so people know exactly what will get to her. So when a commenter puts something along the lines of "Hurr hurr I hope you get raped" it's not necessarily because they actually hold that opinion, but because they know that it will get a negative reaction.

From a cursory google search, Thunderf00t argues about religion over the internet.  Anita argues about women's rights.
Neither of them deserve death threats or even the level of trolling they receive, and yet they do receive them.  The reason is because they're discussing sensitive issues.

Well don't forget that Anita is also putting herself out as not only a feminist but is also outright going on the position that "Games are hurting women".

And even if you say "No that isn't what she is saying" I should state that the name of her videos are Tropes VERSUS women.

While her being a woman has something to do with it... I think it is a combination of factors and not just "she is a woman!"

If your post is directed at me, do you mean to suggest that adopting the position that "Games are hurting women." makes her a valid candidate for death threats and this disgusting level of trolling?

No one should be subject to this.  Treating her documentary as a scientific argument and picking apart its failures to categorically prove every statement, that's one thing.  Attacking her personally is entirely another.  And yes, while people are often attacked on the internet, this level of bile can only come from a widespread, despicable demographic.  They are both easily threatened and unable (or unwilling) to address her points in a logical way.  The scale of these attacks make it uncomparable to normal trolling.

Plenty of people far more popular than Anita have faced far less harassment, as I pointed out (with examples) earlier.

Nope only saying that her being a woman isn't the prime stand alone factor in her being targeted by disgusting level of trolling.

Plus apparently people hated her videos before this. So I wonder how much flak she got before this.

Tf00t doesn't just argue, he does science!

No one really deserves anything, but they still receive stuff nonetheless.
The reason is not because they are discussing sensitive issues, it is because the creation of massive unmoderated networks has allowed grandiose mob mentalities. The threats between fandoms - and to be on topic, especially amongst gamers, is a massive, massive thing that no one seems to care about because it doesn't fit into their agendas. And random matchup games are hardly forums for discussing sensitive issues.

Flamewars between fandoms aren't relevant.  You said all internet personas get this level of harassment, and I provided a counterexample: The LPer I mentioned, Nerd^3.  Great guy, great Let's Player, who panned several games he played.  Yet his Youtube comments are not spammed by personal attacks.

Anita and Thunderf00t were harassed by very large groups of very hateful people.  I'm really not saying anyone here is like that, in fact I'm implying the people bringing reasonable arguments here are much better.  But Anita did receive very serious harassment and it was politically motivated.  Any other factors are *trivial*.  These morons are not angry that she misused the word "epidemic", they're threatened *and* insecure.  They're lashing out.

No, I said internet personalities attract this attention. You provided an example of a persona. And provided a lovely example of ignoring things that you don't agree with.

Every other factor is the reason for its existence. It's the difference between someone seeing something they disagree with and engaging in public discourse or going 'ur ghey go kill self plz kthxbye.'

You inventing a difference between "personality" and "persona" isn't *me* ignoring things I don't agree with.

I have no idea what you're trying to say.  The other factors may contribute, but I'm saying they're trivial.  Do you... disagree?

Edit: More than that, can you list some of the factors?  I'd love to hear what it is about Anita's videos that you think causes all this personal harassment, if it isn't the fact that she's a woman speaking for gender equality.

You disagree with definitions? I don't see ill in ignoring that. I wouldn't ignore an argument in any heightened sense, semantics on the other hand; boring as fuck.
A persona is the invented image, a personality is a famous image. An internet personality is one who is famous on the internet. And I'm not just talking about having millions of subscribers on youtube. I'm talking about cross sites recognition. Banana folk got it on the rise of Euphorism and Anita became an internet personality the moment she was spammed in /v/ and /v/ subsequently spammed it everywhere.

I have no idea what you're trying to say.  The other factors may contribute, but I'm saying they're trivial.  Do... disagree?
Yes. I'm saying the fact that she is a feminist, a woman, talking about 'sensitive issues' or talking about video games has absolutely sod all compared to the massive unmoderated medium that has propagated insults that fly with the ease of butter in cogs.
