Say what you will about enterprise its biggest fault was that it was just boring.

Oddly enough my purity made me not realise half of what was going on and in fact I didn't realise this until I read the reviews. I had no idea they kept trying to force sex appeal onto the show. Honestly when Tpol started giving massages I thought it was just the captain setting them up. I didn't know it was there because "Tpol is sexy guys! sex!".

As for Archer the character. I think the problem is he didn't feel like a main character. He was the captain, he was the most important person on the ship, but he didn't feel like it. He is so passive.

They toned down the blatant fanservice after the first two seasons, thankfully.

Anyway, Star Trek Into Darkness comes out in May.  I liked Star Trek XI even with some of its "science" issues; I hope the new one improves on the 2009 film.

Archer (especially in the early seasons) is a horrible character who constantly and needlessly puts his crew at risk, and at the behest of Phlox, deliberately allows an entire alien race to perish when it was in their means to help.  He displays a total lack of common sense in any given situation, ignoring obvious and smarter alternatives to insane courses of action, and he frequently spouts lazily-written nonsense which we're supposed to think is wisdom.

He was a cherry on the sundae of failure that was Enterprise.  NX-01 was the ship of the damned.

Also, Archer is USELESS in a fight! Kirk>Archer because Kirk kicked ass, while Archer got his ass kicked.

Ok, I'm steering this in a new direction. Why would you love/hate to be Spock.

Eh. Spock's fine, but I don't think I'd particularly want to be him. Not sure if I'd like to be any other species, for that matter. I like my own little human quirks.

Honestly, Sisko from DS9 is starting to grow on me. Maybe it's just the emotional vulnerability he gives away in the first few episodes, but he's the most human and relatable captain I've yet seen on Trek. He's not the paragon of Virtue and Hardassery that is Picard, nor the Showboating Man's Man that is Kirk. He's got a kid who he cares about, but isn't too great with. He's got both friendships and grudges with different members of his crew. He's got a position with a lot of responsibility that he takes seriously, but he isn't afraid to bend the rules when it's for the greater good. And he's got all the cunning and leadership a good captain needs to keep a space-city floating, out in the fringes of the Federation.

I mean, check out this monologue... So much character depth! So much intrigue! So much morally-grey territory! I especially love the part at the end. How Sisko repeats to himself "I can live with it," as though repeating it enough would make it true.
