Man, I speak from experience when I say that at the 48 hour mark you will exist on the edge between the imagined and the reality. At this point you will probably give up (and I was doing it for charity).

Had to push it back by one day. Realized I barely had any sleep the night before, and that isn't any way to start a week with 0 sleep. In addition, all this discussion of sleep made me sleepy.

Now though, well rested and ready to not rest. Trust me on this guys, I am prepared, sorta. No tests, exams, or assignments to screw over. No events, no nothing. Just a regular week without sleep. And don;t worry about permanet damage, Wikipedia assuers me acute ttal deprivation is easier to recover from the chronic partial.

Also, If nothing else, I will pass the 48 hour mark simply to prove I can. So many naysayers about that particular mark. I have to say, I have alot of confidence in my body. I can do it. I am stubbborn enough that halucinations will not convince me. Hell, I was the guy who, once, at the tender age of seven, decided there was nothing wrong with suddenly peeing blood (Turned out to be Urecal cyst, a Tumor. The Urecus is supposed to break down early in life, mine didn't. Had it removed.) I can do it. If nothing else, I know have to prove myself.

I find it difficult to do anything after about 24 hours.

Well, if nothing else I can do that at least. Did it just a few days ago. Perfectly sane.

On one hand...yeah, be careful pal. Avoid heavy machinery and whatnot, don't do anything too exertiony, don't rely on stimulants, and QUIT IF YOU FEEL REALLY BAD.

Oh, and take a hiatus from anything you don't want to do while in a poor state of mind. I'm normally pretty polite and intelligent, but both of those tend to erode noticeably by midnight without any previous notable sleep deprivation.

And, above all...don't push your luck or your self.
And good luck.

48 is easily doable at your age. Stock up on computergames, though. It gets boring and lonely at night.

I get very tired after staying up 24 hours, but I can usually continue going. Never been up for 48 hours, though, a whole week sounds impossible to me.

Then again, I've heard of a few people who managed it, and they didn't suffer any permanent damage. Will be awesome if you manage it. :P If humans didn't have to sleep we would more or less have twice as long lives and a huge amount of free time, it would be glorious.

And make sure the games aren't competitive since you don't want to lose and feel unmotivated, that always makes me feel tired. :( You could have a LotR marathon, though. Or play through the entire Megaman series.

Good luck & bad idea from me too :)

Also, why are you doing this ? Just to see if you can ? I must have missed the explanation somewhere.

There's no way you're going to make it, but best of luck anyways.

While you're sleep-deprived, you should play Star Zoo, a.k.a. Toady's game about sleep deprivation.

That's right.  Star Zoo.  HA HA HA AH AHAA AH AHA HA....   if ther are bugs it is zuz I've ben up 36 hours.

Having been to six days due to severe insomnia as a teenager...it's hell. The first day wasn't bad, but days 2.5-3.5 are made of utter drag-ass tired and caffeine heartburn. You nod off for a few minutes at a time, and scare yourself awake because you're shaking so hard. Eating is hard. Everything aches, especially your teeth, although maybe that was just me. You're irritable as fuck, and cry and yell at people a lot. Day six is when the world kind of started melting around me, and I laid on the floor and just kind of let the meltiness consume me. Weird as fuck (lookin' at you, Xantalos.) I slept for about two days solid, and wasn't "right" for about a week.

Good luck.

Please stop. I dont want to come back in a week and find out how this has fucked up your life and health (particularly if you're still growing). If you were say training on the offchance of perpetual gaurd duty, do it with someone who knows what their doing and how to teach you, medical advice, etc. Once again, please stop, or do it properly.

One time probably won't matter, but don't make a habit of sleep deprivation like I did.  I'm 3-4 inches shorter than all the men on both sides of my family.

While we're on the subject, does a lack of breakfast compensated for in the latter parts of the day in late teens have a noticable effect, because it's worrying me.

I seriously wonder what's different about me, having never experienced the mind-melting that everyone else seems to, even after 48 hours.
