Avoid large amounts of sugar too. The crash often lasts longer than the high. Unless you're maintaining a constant intake, of course, which is really not healthy for days straight.

SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK.
Hey, that's what I always say when I decide not to sleep!
And I think it in that exact manner, too.
Anyways, best of luck with going sleepless. Don't rest your head.

I think three days is about the event horizon for reasonability. Good luck, but I doubt you'll make it past three or four days.

At the age of 16, while technically capable of driving, I do not as of yet have a license, nor a car, and I live in manhatten, so the point is moot. I COULD pass out into the Subway tracks, but that is a couple minute window and people will generally save you if that happens.

Moreover, according to my own research, in between all the doom-saying about how terrrible a idea this is, wikipedia tells me recovering from total deprivation is actually easier in terms of sleep. More efficient.

So, 3 days or so is the expectation. Very, very, very little confidence. Duly noted. Notes so far: Headache. Not particularly unusual, always seem ot have a headache. Runs in the family.

Going to join in on the "this is a bad idea, don't try it" bus. That said, I don't think you'll make it. My experience has usually been that sleep catches you unawares, just like Freddy Kruger.

Dude, I've never even managed an all-nighter.  I just can't do it.  My body gets to about eighteen hours awake and then just starts setting off the "Vector, what are you even fucking doing" alarms and that's that.  Vector without sleep is not smart-Vector, so I've solved my problem by killing my procrastination habit.

So, uh, man... good luck, I guess...

I wish you luck with this, but a word of caution. I spent my youth in a state of chronic sleep-deprivation, and it damaged my long-term memory in ways I'm not sure I'll ever recover from.

We don't understand the brain well enough to know all the effects sleep-deprivation may have. There is a reason we're compelled to sleep every day, though. Think about it this way; sleeping makes us completely vulnerable and unaware of our surroundings for several hours at a time, putting us at a considerable risk from a survival standpoint. Yet every animal with a central nervous system does it. Thus, there must be a very strong Natural Selection factor against not sleeping.

Be safe with this thing, okay?

PTW

This is ABSOLUTE WIN, and also very dangerous.  Then again, I've always wanted to see what Bay12ers are willing to do outside the game.

So good luck, and don't do anything ( else ) dangerous.

As someone who's had many days of little sleep (3-6 hours anyone?), and even stayed up an entire day at least a couple times, I say... uhh, good luck man.

I've almost done this before.  I wasn't intending it.  I had severe insomnia from an explosion of emotional issues and anxiety.  I went three nights without sleep, three hours of sleep the next night, and then three more nights without sleep.  That's three hours in the course of a week.  Almost what you're attempting.

I didn't hallucinate, and besides my emotional issues, I was steadily coherent throughout.  I also had waaaaay more tolerance for sleep deprivation in my teen years than the vast majority of people.  I used to stay up for two days straight and barely feel it.

Interesting note:  I didn't consume any caffeine or much sugar during those years.  No substances.  It was all me.  Ever since I started drinking coffee, coupled with a couple periods of prolonged sleep deprivation (as in very low average amounts of sleep per night over several months), I can just barely force myself to pull an all-nighter when the most dire circumstances demand it.

Given that, I doubt you'll be able to do this.  But I will go against the grain here and say that I think it's definitely possible, and without much health risk if you're young and healthy.  I think your best chance is to completely detox yourself from caffeine and sugar and then try.

As someone who's had many days of little sleep (3-6 hours anyone?), and even stayed up an entire day at least a couple times, I say... uhh, good luck man.
I spent the winter quarter of my second year of community college getting 4-5 hours of sleep per night for three months. I woke up at 5:30 to do chores and homework for high school. I got there by 7:00 for early class. Returned home from sports/clubs/whatnot by 6:00 (or later if I was running audio for a sporting event after practice.), then socialize for a few hours. Then to the marathon that was homework for 18-credits of college classes by midnight. I'd spend half an hour or so finishing up any loose ends, then possibly fall asleep by 1. Repeat endlessly, except less sleep on Saturdays (because of cross country, knowledge bowl, and track meets) and Sundays (because that was the deadline for weekly college assignments I hadn't finished.)

Downside: Tiredness for a month, manic energy for a second, coasting for a third.
Upside: Completely prepared for college part two.

It's possible to train the body to handle it, but it isn't fun. I would not have had the motivation to do it if I weren't doing work constantly.

Good luck, bad idea, etc.

Also yeah, I suspect this is going to get really boring.

It's not that dangerous, it's like trying to kill yourself by holding your breath. As long as you don't artificially keep yourself awake (excessive caffeine, other drugs), you'll fall asleep before you can do any real harm to yourself.

Keep us posted. Hallucinations used to start at 50-60 hours for me.
