I, for one, am looking forward to breeding the perfect cat. Then hundreds.

I, for one, welcome our feline overlords.

I'd be not great at this game, then.

Do we have any more information on this? Maybe a tentative release date window?

Sometime this year. That's all I've read. I haven't seen any recent updates for it.

Unfortunate. I'd really like to know more about how the genetics work in this game, they seem really interesting. I wonder if it'll be as intricate and complex as Creatures?

^Say what! So now it's up to me to create tall blue cats with silly USB plug hair? Why do I have to be the one creating them?

But seriously, I need something to sate my "Pet Simulator" apetite. Nintendogs just won't cut it. Also genetics are fun IMHO. Eugenics, on the other hand. . .  >:( Let's not speak of them.

I hadn't actually thought of that, but now that you mention it; yes!

Normally I run through games I've linked and see if there's updates, and it's kind of a mechanical thing at times.

But this one. Oh no. This one is special, and I'm stupidly delighted to be able to update it again.

http://www.polygon.com/2013/6/9/4412576/mew-genics-moves-beyond-cat-hoarding-introduces-new-character

Quote
Baby Jack is the manager of the in-game store, Hoarders R Us, which will allow players to collect new items. But, according to developer Edmund McMillen, it "wont be your basic hoarding sim" and the "furniture in the shop has significance that goes beyond pathological collecting."

"Every day Jack stocks the store with pieces of his Nonas collection, bringing you amazing things for your house as well as aiding in her eventual escape from the confines of her self imposed tomb." McMillen wrote on the blog. He went to say that the freedom to change a game's design throughout its development is one of the highlights aspects of being an indie developer.

I have absolutely no idea what that means. It sort of sounds like they hit the end of the cat simulation and felt the game need some other direction to guide it. Or maybe the cats and junk is a metaphor for becoming trapped in your (enjoyable) routines, who knows. With McMillen, all bets are off. I'm only really sure that I'll be playing it. Whatever. Meow.

I really need to read more of McMillen's blog, there's tons of amazing Binding of Isaac stuff on there, and some Mewgenics stuff I hadn't seen. (There's supposed to be a Caturday update, but it doesn't seem to happen all that often.) I guess it's also on the Super Meat Boy blog. Man. So many blogs.

Here's some more stuff about Mewgenics, at any rate.

So. Cats have a kitten and an adult phase. You can determine many (but not all) of its attributes by looking at it. How fast, how tough, attack capabilities, its temperament and personality. They describe the cats in very RPG-esqe terms, as they kind of relates to the different activities, fights, paegents, races, and so on. What traits a cat shows as a kitten will differ somewhat from its adult form. A cat's mean or crazy personality might not be apparent as a kitten, but will come right out as an adult.

Visuals are in the links, but here you are anyways:

Quote
for instance this little guy (his name was Bimbo) has noticeably round features, large eyes and an extremely hard looking jawline. from these visuals we can determine that Bimbo is probably a tank, high hp, high defense and probably a tiny bit cuter than average cats due to his glassy round eyes. his kitten form would probably do pretty well in pageants, but since Bimbo wasn't born with dwarfism, once he hits adult hood he probably wont be as good of a contender in them (though imagine the possibilities if he happened to have a rare case of primordial dwarfism!).

Quote
visual attributes aren't the end all be all when it comes to cat stats though, temperament plays a large role as well. aside from the cats actions, its mood can also be determined by its expressions.

a cat like Zelda here as a kitten looks quite cute, but as an adult you can tell from her expression that shes not a nice one.. and even if her stats scream CUTE her expression says.. if you enter me in a cat pageant i'm going to kill everyone else there. and that's bad.. for cat pageants anyway.

There is so much going on in this game its going to be a hard one to pitch in an eloquent tag line.. but i think "I just birthed an alien cat with no mouth and Spock ears that seems to float around the room" might be enough to get the job done.

I hadn't realized, up until now, how much of a mutant cat simulator this was going to be. It's got all the wonderful variety of mechanical elements that made Binding of Isaac so cool, with the accompanying visual components....and now they're all tied into a simulation instead of a twitch shooter. There seems to be an emphasis on combat, which kinda reminded me of a mutant pit fighting game I've been dreaming of lately. And then there's some sort of junk collecting/house improvement/story line to go with all that too? Marvelous. Catastic.

The game will be playable by people at Pax in August, so I suspect the cat's about to come out of the bag on this game.
