They recently changed the scope of the game and added a bunch of stuff that sort of doesn't fit in my opinion, which is what has delayed the game. Furniture hoarding is now a major element of the game. I don't know what's going on with these guys.

It's probably a mixture of feature creep and a desire to move their release date away from the summer.

A lot of Indie game developers have been avoiding releasing around Christmas or the summer to avoid competing with big releases. Which by side effect seems to have led to many of them releasing in the autumn instead.
