Camtasia Studio works with DF, but it's rather expensive. But there might yet be other freeware out there that works. I couldn't help you more specifically with that, though.

Are you sure? What does it do?    I can confirm that it doesn't work.

I've used Fraps on Stonesense, so I know that works, for certain.

Otherwise, you can capture frames (to CMV files) using the built in make movie feature ( ; - main menu option ) and also edit them with this.

I believe you have to change the PRINT_MODE to STANDARD in your init.txt file to get FRAPS to record DF.

This. Changing it to STANDARD will allow it to be DX hooked.

Unless you are on an old machine or have other problems you probably want to change it to STANDARD even if you aren't doing any recording. STANDARD is 99% as stable as the older releases, and can get you a small FPS increase from the switch (especially if you have a dual or greater core machine, since STANDARD print mode and up offload the graphics portion of DF to a second core, allowing your main DF core to utilize slightly more power).

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Fraps works fine for me as long as the game's in full screen.
