Historical reasons. They originally were founded by Bay12ers, and they still claim ties to the community here. Of course, having a unique niche, a lot of non-Bay12 people migrated to their community so 80% probably have no idea why it's called what it is.

I just mentioned punching Pun Pun got the admins mad over at Baystation 12. Not trying to cause a huge drama, or anything.
