This is the future. I would imagine they would have made a less painful surgical tool set, but of course Nanotrasen is fucking cheap, so Anesthetics is still required due to the use of outdated tools.

MY EXPLANATION: Everyone is so used to the normal toolset that when they get surgery on NT stations, their former beliefs of it being near painless is quickly changed

I think I'll go with Mordin's ethical code when it comes to assassination. I'll kill them with anything but medicine.

I may throw acid in your face, I may stab you with an energy sword, I may beat you to death with a chain of command, but I will not poison your pills, I will not inject you with a 'cure' (mindbreaker is fine, it won't kill you.), and I will not butcher you to death in surgery, or cavity implant you with a bomb unless you ask for it, and it's a xenomorph infestation or something, so you can blow yourself up (along with them, hopefully).

Actually, that's gonna be my new tactic as a human. Get bomb, cavity implant willing volunteer, keep eye on the crew monitoring system, they get attacked and dragged off. Soon as they stop moving, BOOOOOOOM!
