Meanwhile, when this war is over, the Donbass and Luhansk republics (Or are they one republic? Not sure) will have a hell of a lot of infrastructure repairing to do.
They wanted Russian world. They got average level of Russian infrastructure. Everything is fair (If only good people didn't suffer in the process)

I wonder when US troops might take part, but then again, that would create tension with Russia. The UK can do it without  much provocation, the US, not so much.

BTW here in Finland a squadron or two of F/A-18s were moved to Helsinki yesterday(which normally has just 2 fighters in something like 20 min readiness). Theres also a large NATO naval-ground exercise in the Gulf of Bothnia.

Dunno if it has made to the media where you people live but there have been numerous airspace violations by Russia during the last 8 days, with at least one aircraft belonging to the FSB, and this year Russian politicians including Putin himself have commented on Russo-Finnish relations and even our domestic politics considerably more often than usual. Words such as "historical part of Russia", "Duchy", "threat of NATO", "fear of Russia" and so forth have been used. Recent polls show support for NATO membership has risen from 20-ish % to almost 40% this year alone.

What do I think? Maybe we could escort the next violator to Helsinki-Vantaa International. And buy more tanks from Germany.

I doubt German tanks would work all that well in the Finnish weather conditions.

Finns don't need tanks, they prefer killing Russians with reindeer antlers and salmiakki.

That'd be the Saami (sp?), not Finns.

BTW "on Russia" is not a grammar mistake. It is an answer to Russian habit to say "on Ukraine" (In Russian language for countries you use "in", for territories you use "on" )

man's son gets mugged
man confronts mugger and demands the return of stolen item
mugger stabs man in the eye
man in turn stabs mugger fatally
man sent to prison for 6 years

if only the euroliberul overlords hadn't taken away the son's right to carry a firearm and defend himself and his property this whole mess could have been resolved right from the start

That sounds like horrible self defence laws to me. Not sure what that has to do with gun policy.

Leopard IIs work well: German quality products with diesel engines. I guess with this new step-by-step escalating "hybrid warfare" the good old massed infantry, armor and artillery(Finland has Europe's 2nd largest artillery arm after Russia) are still all but irrelevant.

There will be a lot of pressure on local politicians in national security questions for the coming years.

Dunno, I like not having to carry a gun or knife just in case I'd get robbed. The more weapons there are around the more they get used as the bad guys will be carrying them as well as others. Guns dont solve all problems.

I was sure that this kind of idiotic self-defense laws are unique for post-Soviet countries

I was wrong

It's refreshing to know that Soviet Union, as all other countries, were populated by the humans with the same brains as humans in all other countries.

Also, what's up with UK? There has been a lot of bad news from it recently.

Would laxer gun laws not just lead to this:

Man's son is mugged (mugger now has a gun, because easier access).
Then
a)Man's son goes for his gun, and is then shot by the mugger because he's not a 80's action hero
b)Man's son shoots mugger as he flees/during mugging (because he is an 80's action hero?), Man's son goes to jail for 6 years

I'm not sure self defense laws count when you seek out confrontation with a known criminal. Is there a reason this information couldn't have just been brought to the police?

Honestly, reading the article, I agree with the conviction. He sort out the man after the robbery. He armed himself, sort out the guy, and then picked an argument with a mugger. Hard to claim self-defense when your deliberately picking a fight.

You really should read the article instead of trying to misrepresent it like that. He wasn't defending himself against a mugger, he was out to enact violent vigilante justice.
Quote
The judge added: "All you needed to do was to phone the police and give them the information. However, you armed yourself with a knife and, along with your three sons, went looking for him."
Quote
"Nevertheless, the fact is you took the law into your own hands and went looking for a man you knew was armed with a knife armed with a weapon of your own."
If anything, he should get a more harsh sentence than normal to dissuade idiots from trying to play policeman when they really shouldn't be.
