Yes it is, but I'm not talking about the Russian army; I'm talking about the rebels. I believe that the Russians are sending special forces operatives to Ukraine and other specialised troops but that will never be enough to sustain a guerrilla campaign if the majority of the people in the area do not support it.

Ukraine is backed by the EU (sort of) - after all this is over, they'll get all sorts of aid from the West. Russia, not so much.

The country who's long term growth forecasts go downgraded by about 1% a year for the next twenty years?  Russia paid something like a trillion dollars for Crimea in terms of lost economic output over the next decade.

You're jumbling up two timeframes here - EU problems will be greatly reduced once the economy is completely back on track, while the Ukraine aid is something for the next couple of decades.

I'm sure after 6 years of not being on track, the European economy will magically go back on track once the new sanctions will set in! After all, who needs Russian resources in Europe, anyway? Oh wait. Everyone.
European economy is not an endless source of free money, as many people here apparently think.
Also, helping Ukraine is going to end the same as helping Greece FYI.

Now the rebels are putting mines down in the area of the MH17 crash. It doesn't seem absolutely confirmed, but there are reports of it and it was enough to force the investigators to turn back.

Funny thing about that, it's a two way street.  You can't be the third world source of raw materials for the places with a real economy if you are pissing in the punch bowl

there is too much price pressure because it turns out "everything else" imports are even more important then "crude natural resource" exports.

If things continue on the present course we should expect Brazil to be passing Russia in terms of standard of living sometime in the 2020s.
