Well, with EU being socialistic, crazy leviathan with response time measured in years, I wouldn't count on them. And after USA's thing in Syria... Well, I wouldn't count on them either. As for the neighbours of Ukraine, I think Belarus doesn't even need a comment here, Russia can come in, but only to screw you over and over again, Moldova also doesn't seem to be anything like helping (anybody in anything, for that matter)... And Poland, as much as I hate it, with those (preventive self-censoring in progress) in power, will try to give you as much support as possible, but I don't think you should count on anything official. As for the Romania, I really don't know, but if Nicolae Ceaușescu is any indication, they should be willing to help you as well.

All I can say is: burn the (self-censoring in progress again) who are in power now. Or hang them, it works either way. And it's the only way. And then start building a real middle-European alliance of free nations. That's the only way we can get anything good from this geopolitical position (by 'we' I mean 'civilized Slavic nations', which excludes Russia), and every time somebody has a different idea, there come some Soviet communist army or a German, Nazi one and bends everyone over and (yeah, you guess, self-censoring in progress) us over and over and over again.

Stay strong.

Because 'the west' is a megalithic empire willing to send shock troopers in for any cause of true justice*

*As determined by the financial powers-that-be. You need more US banks and UK/French citizens around before they bother to lift a finger to help.

I Understand. Also I understand that such huge machines as USA or EU needs a lot of time to make changes in foreign policy. But many Ukrainians were quite naive and believed in "The West gonna help us"  little too much and now disappointed

I do hope that that European politicians understand that Syria right near their borders is not impossible.
Well, what would you like the EU to do?
Reallistically speaking there are not many options right now.
The situation is bad, but it is still far from a civil war. That means military options are off the table. These would have to be negotiated with Russia anyway, which makes this a complicated issue.
Economic sanctions would hit the population first and worst. That might make things worse, because then the government can blame the sanctions and foreigners for everything.
Diplomatic pressure and supporting the (moderate) opposition is what they do now, maybe that isn't much, but I don't see what more can be done at this point.
The EU wants a peaceful solution to this, a political solution or a peaceful revolution maybe, they will not do anything that could escalate the situation further.

The real question is how the various nations would react if the violence does spread and escalate. German soldiers standing in the Ukraine once more? That would be a hard sell...

Germany now is practically the antithesis to what it was 60 years ago though. In my mind I can't even associate it with what it was then.

70 years, actually. And yeah, we changed - a bit too much in certain respects, if you ask me. If Russia started invading Poland right now, our politicians would debate whether they should do something or wait for a UN resolution :P

I could go into help the west provides, but frankly the reason no one mentions it is because it is boring when things work out, thus no one speaks of it; thus it would be boring for me to think about it.

Also, that post has a lot of implications and hints I would like to know more about.

The West has a general rule that it never militarily intervenes in a country where the odds of the world descending into WW3 because of their actions  is more then a standard deviation above the norm. So there's that. The West won't fight the battle for you; they could be doing MORE, but not all that much.

I think the only NATO soldiers that may be unwelcome are Polish. And that's in Western Ukraine, Central will not care. And yes Germans in Eastern Ukraine\Crimea (they have too many idiots who keep living in USSR)

Most Ukrainians are smart enough to see that current Germans, have nothing to do with 1941 ones. I am saying this as a grandson of Sachsenhausen prisoner

In case of real conflict in Ukraine, NATO\American\Any non-Russian peacemakers will be welcomed by huge majority. I have no doubts in that.

PS. Held one more night. Have unconfirmed info about lethal causalities on our side.

Yeah, it would probably be more difficult to convince Germans to send troops to Ukraine than getting Ukrainians to accept them.

Should it come to that, I guess any peacekeeping mission would have to happen under UN mandate, because NATO troops would threaten Russia, while they have a say about UN missions. I hope it will not come that far though, and I don't believe it will.

The best option right now would be for the Ukrainian opposition to unite, keep the demonstrations as violence-free as possible and try for a more successful Orange Revolution 2.0. A big swipe that ends all problems isn't possible anyway.

So I just caught a news update. Seems some sort of stockade has been set up, with guards and everything. Lots of guys walking around in camo jackets, and I'm guessing a few guns have been stashed away. I wonder how many men strong it stands...

I haven't heard anything about gun use on the protesters side. According to German media it was 3000 protesters vs 1000 police in Kiev yesterday. Demonstrations are banned in Kiev currently, so protesters potentially face a long jail time. The oppositions claims 1400 injured since the protests started, the government claims 160 injured policemen.

Freedom fighter - yes, sure. That can be understood and honored. Hero - don't think so.
