Quote from: New York Times
In speeches on the square, opposition leaders denounced the participants in the melee as provocateurs and said they did not represent the aspirations of the peaceful protesters. But the leaders were also powerless to stop the fighting.
BTW, after that leaders of opposition is not leaders anymore. Unfortunately, Svoboda is included, never expected that top of my party will join the "it's provocateurs" and "we should remain peaceful" hysteria. If I see no changes I am leaving the party together with many others. If they forgot the words from the Oath of Ukrainian nationalists -"Will create a national Ukrainian state or die fighting for it"  We don't

You know, many may look at the events as on protests, for me this is a war for independence. Real independence, not the imitation we got in 1991.  Yes I am hoping that this war will not be very bloody, but if it will not.... So be it. Freedom is not free

I am so happy that my grandma is alive to see that. You should have seen her happy eyes. She had her father sent to Siberia, survived Holodomor as a child, Survived German occupation during WW2 as a teenager, spent life in USSR, witnessed emerging of independent country only to see that none of communist criminals were punished and stayed in power under different brands, she witnessed 2004 when peaceful revolution was betrayed...

Stay strong, you I have no suitably endearing expletive.

Remember that this shouldn't be about the EU though as you'll simply be exchanging Russia for a voice in the affairs of a new master :3

At least, I hope so. Stronk EU will be stronk!

EU is not as popular as it was few months back.  Some people did  expect personal sanctions on government members and got very unhappy  seeing nothing but "We are disappointed, bla-bla-bla-bla, We are worried, bla-bla-bla, We are concerned, bla-bla-bla"

Popular joke in Ukrainian Internet:
The government banned peaceful protests. "OK. We respect the laws. No more peaceful protests" Said Ukrainians

If they forgot the words from the Oath of Ukrainian nationalists -"Will create a national Ukrainian state or die fighting for it"

Wait a second. I always thought it was "I swear to the German Supreme Leader and Commander of the German Army Adolf Hitler in unfailing loyalty and obedience."

Source:

But nevermind. Just a quick note for our foreign friends:
 - not everything you see on TV or elsewhere is true. Yes, you must doubt even this post. Want to analyze - get many different sources and use your brain.
 - current Ukrainian government is corrupt, oligarchic and generally awful, but it`s still much better then open nazis from above-mentioned "Svoboda". I mean, like two years ago their leader publicly called "to cleanse all Jews and Russians from the country". So much civilized Europe.
 - I`m not a specialist, but I doubt that Ukraine can join EU now, or even start the integration process. Even the distance between train rails is different here... just imagine the bill for re-railing the whole country. God knows what was Yanukovitch thinking when declaring euro-integration course.
 - our "poor and opressed" opposition has like 150 votes in the parliament. If they recall, this would be instant re-elections of the said parliament. If they have the majority in the new parliament, they can legally initiate re-elections of a president. Why not do this, instead of trying to forcibly capture government institutions?

In my opinion, eventually Ukraine will break up, the question is when will it happen and how peaceful will the breakup be.

]If Ukraine joins the EU, sooner or later it'll encounter the same economic problems that plague other Eastern European EU member states, like high unemployment caused by closure of 'ineffective' factories. If it happens, Western Ukrainians will probably just shrug it off and go seeking jobs in Poland or Germany
Quote
jobs in Poland
That was a good one.

On a more serious note: I suppose that there will be some restrictions regarding workers from Ukraine because it's kinda poor (GDP per capita is about 2 times smaller than in Romania...).

You see guys with what kind of people I have to share country with?

webber
1) I will tell you a secret, Ukrainian nationalists and exactly that Oath existed before WW2.  And the fact that some Ukrainian nationalists cooperated with Germans on the basis of "enemy of my enemy "  doesn't mean that we are or ever were Hitler fans
2) No one cares about EU now. Period. People are fighting not for that anymore. People are fighting for rights and justice.  If you fail to understand that... sorry, you are brainwashed
3) Repeating propaganda lies about Tyahnibok' speech is getting old. Ten years of the same... But he is a political corpse now, for being not radical enough for the current situation.
4)

Under 2004 constitution yes, but under 1996 one, that was unlawfully restored - NO. Don't show your incompetence
Besides what the point in elections in a country where there are no law?

Ok. he doesn't worth more of my time:
Too epic to not share
Spoiler:  Ammunition suppliers (click to show/hide)

On more troubling news: Minister of internal affairs gave an order allowing to use gunfire. Hope they'll not dare and it's only an intimidation. Else it will be Syria here

That's not what's on the table, or ever was on the table. What was on the table was a free trade agreement, until Russia made it pretty clear that they would engage in an open trade war with Ukraine and crash their economy, if the agreement was signed.

It's not even about crashing the economy.
All they have to do is to cut off the gas line and let them freeze to death or at least have a heck of a time chopping down trees in freezing temperatures.

Nope. We have more than enough Ukrainian natural gas mined to supply population and keep us warm. Oligarch-owned  obsolete industries WILL have problems without Russian Gas. Not that I care, that crap needs to be closed in economical reforms anyway

I like that trick. We had almost two months of peaceful protests, now, when patience is over - "You see! They never were peaceful!"

Remind me how this is much different from the USSR?
Well, most of the industry dates back to the USSR, so not very different.

In times of extreme need, I think the EU said that they could provide Ukraine with emergency supplies. Not for long anyway, as most of the European gas is imported from Russia as well.

Well, they can't engage in a trade war with Europe as a whole - that would be economic suicide.

Same goddamn thing with Syria. Damn hypocrites - just be happy that you don't have to share your country with the Germans.

But, but, we have to make sure everything is in order, right?  :-X

Also if the Germans hadn't bought Lenin a train ticket, his revolution would not have happened either.  :P
