What I really hope for is a stong Labour reaction - display polar opposite behaviour to UKIP to attract voters who are insulted by thier family freindly racism, leaving the Tories stuck in the middle, floundering. I think its safe to say that the LibDems have governed themselves into obscurity, and disillusioned LibDem voters could be easily gained by Labour if they do show more left wing/socialist ideals.

Worst case scenario: Tory/UKIP coalition next general election. Not likley to happen though as they are competing over the same voters, hence weakining each other in a FPTP system.

I'm not really sure what the best case scenario is when it comes to British politics. I honestly don't want any political party to win; I dread new Labour as much as I do a floundering Conservative government.

By Labour, I dont mean the centrist Blair era shit - I want a return to the pre-Blair days of Kinnock et al, where it really was a working class driven institution. Thats too much to wish for though I suspect.

I really dread having a Labour government where people like Dianne Abbott, Ed Balls, Harriet Harman etc will have some kind of genuine power. They're three people I would gladly send to that penal colony the BNP suggested we erect on the South Sandwich islands or something.

Ah, for me (having met him), Ed Balls is the best of a bad bunch. Thing is, that says a lot more about the rest of them than anything else.

Whatever happened to Oonah King? She was awesome. I think we are so ready for a mixed race, part Jewish female PM.

Shit, turns out Galloway (of all fucking people) took her seat, and then she was Elevated to the Lords. Damn

I've often wondered if it would be possible to elevate onesself to the lords, then start electing people to your seat.

Eurovision is barely even the correct name at this point. It's more like Mediteranian-Eurasianvision now.
Europe has always been a very loosely defined term.

Last thing I heard was that it represented a shared set of ideals and goals. And that basically any country can find it's place there.

It should really be "Eurasianvision" for now.

Isn't Kazakhstan a possible EU member, according to their [the EU] definition of Europe? I believe I've heard something like that at least :P

One day we'll all be Europeans. This is an evil plot by the EU to supplant the United Nations as the One Ineffective World Government.

I'm fairly sure Turkey is already a candidate member. Or would have been if not for Cyprus.

Yup, candidate EU member.

Cyprus isn't the only issue though. Turkey is having some troubles with dividing state and religion, and apparently still angry about the Swedish cartoons some time ago. Then again, I'd really hope they'd join. Would be a nice boost for the EU economics.

Other candidate members are Iceland, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia. Switzerland put their application on hold when the Swiss population basically said nope. Norway has voted down membership twice. Morocco tried to get in back in 1987 and was told they didn't qualify as European. Makes you wonder if they might have a better shot now.

Probably, they'd have a better shot now. Also, their economy is doing fairly well too, and Morocco EU relations are going well.

The only problem I got with the EU is that it might be a bit too conservative/carefull on technology. (Think shale gass, GMO,...) After all, quite a lot of those things are developped in Europe, and well, importing stuff isn't forbidden.
