Yeah, but you can't really absord food by the rectum. Normally, you'd force-feed them through a tube in the stomach I guess. Forcing pureed pasta up a prisoner's anus seems more like pure sadism to me.

The US is torturing prisoners to death and I'm not even surprised. Keep in mind that they were put there without trial and that a fair number of them have been found innocent. They even put one of Al jazzra's journalist in there.

I feel like Americans will end up finding this clip slightly less humorous in the coming years.

The CIA is not supposed to be doing that anymore, though I'm not entirely sure that they stopped. The torture stuff is old, back in the Bush adminstration, the report is simply getting released just now because it took so long to make it.

Yes the world is recoiling at the torture report, and they should, because it's our shame to bear. Better to be honest and bear the shame and move past it than hide it like an embarrassing secret and deny it never happened.

Also, the ACLU apparently thinks Obama should pardon everybody involved in that whole thing.

You mean him not doing that is even an option?

That's better than I expected.

AFAIK, they're the only ones saying that Obama should pardon those involved in it. Well, perhaps those who got caught up in it but wanted nothing to do with it, but those who knew something and didn't do anything about it? no.

Although it's a question of how much the Bush adminstration actually knew and when. By all appearances, it looks like the CIA went rogue and decieved everybody.

By pardon everyone, that sentence means EVERYONE?  Or everyone as in just the people who got tortured?

He said in the interview to pardon the torturers and perhaps Bush and others.

It would make more sense to pardon those who got tortured.

Isn't this the same shit the CIA has been doing since the organization was created?  I mean seriously... the CIA was proven to be conducting horrific, sometimes deadly, and mostly worthless human experimentation on U.S. citizens within a few years of its founding that in some cases went on for decades.  They've proven involved in many instances of kidnapping, torture, assassination, and more throughout all their history.  Why does anyone talk about this report as if it marks some departure from the CIA's normal behavior?

And wasn't Bush challenged many times on his stance on the use of torture while he was still in office, and always defended it as useful and necessary?

How to replace the CIA without completely destroying the capabilities the US has would be a great question.

It might be an issue of no oversight though, I dunno. One also has to remember that the CIA was created during the cold war when paranoia pretty much ruled the day.

Isn't it also the descendant of an organization created in WWII to fight the Japanese and Germans?

I'm sorry to infom you of this but the CIA has been supposed to stop doing things like that for most of its existence, they never did.

In all probabilities, this rapport change nothing, the government will say "this is very bad and not the American way", and they will punish absolutely no one, or maybe a few low level scapgegoat. Politicians will say that "they didn't know" and the American public will find that normal.

This IS the American way, and it has been the American way since the Vietnam at least.

Yea, nothing will come of this. These things are usually released strategically. Albeit this one seems kind of early, but then again, when it was discovered that the CDC was doing tests on black males with syphilis rather than treating them for it, it was still happening, in the 70s. (they promised to stop once those people died tho, so happy ending.)

These discoveries happen all the time, almost no one, if anyone gets punished, the American public briefly pretends to be shocked but doesn't really care and goes on their way.

I still feel very betrayed by Obama for not closing down Guantanamo. That was one of his big promises. Putting the detainees on legal crowd with legal rights.

Yeah, except you'll run into the 'not in my backyard' phenomenon, that is, nobody really wants to have them. Still, even if that WERE the case, just stick them into a federally funded prison rather than a state one.

It's really not a simple thing to just close quantanamo, and I'm not trying to make excuses, it really isn't as simple as 'hey guys, we're closing this!'.
