68% of US supports euthanasia.
Kinda misleading - it's about assissted suicide, not forced sterilization.

I think you're confusing euthanasia and eugenics.

And even eugenics involves... considerably more than that, though. Closest to forced sterilization I could think of hearing about would be chemical castration, here in the states, and I have no idea what public opinion on that is.

Maybe partially, but the word 'euthanasia' is commonly associated with Nazi Germany's Aktion T4. The two are related, though.

Ok, but that was still euthanasia in service of eugenics. Nothing about forced sterilization there.

That still has... nothing to do with sterilization. Even the bit you linked even says that although they used the language of euthanasia, that's not what they were actually doing. And what they were doing wasn't sterilization either.

The two aren't any more related than any other two random things, and it's okay to admit you didn't know what a word meant...

Dude, I admit I got confused (forced sterilization was indeed part of the eugenics programs), but at least in Germany talking about 'euthanasia' triggers all sorts of Nazi alarms. Maybe the usage is different in English-speaking countries, but the wording struck me as very odd anyway.

Literally the only thing that euthenasia has to do with the Nazis is that they used the term for something that was clearly not euthanasia i.e. execution. Nazi's had about as much to do with euthanasia as they did with socialism - maybe in the broadest sense, but that's a pretty broad sense.

Yeah, it's just that Nazi-eugenics are often brought up in German debates about euthanasia. It's a controversial debate (at least in politics, the population is much more relaxed about it), so people try to stir up emotions and nothing is as good for that as Nazi associations.

Where? Because as far as I can tell, no. No you did not.

You said:

Nothing in there is an admission of confusion. I do see what looks like an attempt to argue you were at least partially right, which is nonsense. And then you combine it by re-affirming the two are related. Euthanasia has nothing particular to do with sterilization.

Yeah, relax. If you google the German word "Euthanasie", the first results page is about Nazi crimes only (not euthanasia, but T4, racial hygiene, euthanasia of disabled children etc). The more commonly used word "Sterbehilfe" brings up the regular euthanasia debates.

This whole discussion seems to be getting a bit too tense.  Let's not bicker and argue about who euthanized who.

EDIT: That's the worst part! We're not even arguing about euthanasia, or even the correct usage of the word!
