You forgot the worst of all: Socialists.

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

As for the Stegonographer, it occurs to me the Government needs to take a long and hard look at the people doing their background checks.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

Dawn of
A New Day

With a deal passed by the House and Senate, awaiting signing by the President, we have indeed just barely stopped the moon from falling, mere game minutes hours from the end. Huzzah 'till early 2014!

On the lighter side of things, our entire country will now be suffering the Wrath of God.
Why am I ultimately not surprised? That's a bad thing, right? Not being shocked by that news snippet? Unless we're told this stenographer and lawmaker1 is a Democrat, in which case I will be very surprised.

As for the Stegonographer, it occurs to me the Government needs to take a long and hard look at the people doing their background checks.
What, you mean ramp up the existing investigations after Edward Snowden and the Navy Yard shooter? :)

How do I delete the poll?
I believe it may be stuck forever. You could replace it with a dummy poll, though.

Footnotes
1I am now curious to discover what a stenographer in the House is, and why they're also described as a lawmaker. I can't seem to look it up right now, thanks to recent news  :(

I think the most interesting facet in this resolution is how they got the debt ceiling "raised".  Namely, they didn't.  If they just raised the ceiling to another arbitrary amount, they wouldn't really know what day it was going to run up to again.  So instead, the bill just suspends the 'enforcement' of the debt ceiling until February 7th.

Technically, for the four months and change, the government is operating without a debt ceiling.  Just like every other government on Earth.

Stenographer is reporter, but for law. So basically, she was supposed to just be there to report and record stuff.

Huh. I was wondering in the back of my mind about how you make a set amount temporary. That answers that. (Although, to be really technical, the debt ceiling was raised; specifically, to an $∞ limit.)

Stenographer is reporter, but for law. So basically, she was supposed to just be there to report and record stuff.
That's what I thought, though it seems a curious term for that position. Still wondering how she qualifies as a lawmaker though (which the Politico link above referred to her as at one point.)

Final tallies:

87-18 in the Senate. All Dems voted for, as did 27 Republicans and the 2 Independent Senators. James Inhofe (R-OK) did not vote.

The 18 Republicans who voted against:

Coburn (R-OK)
Cornyn (R-TX)
Crapo (R-ID)
Cruz (R-TX)
Enzi (R-WY)
Grassley (R-IA)
Heller (R-NV)
Johnson (R-WI)
Lee (R-UT)
Paul (R-KY)
Risch (R-ID)
Roberts (R-KS)
Rubio (R-FL)
Scott (R-SC)
Sessions (R-AL)
Shelby (R-AL)
Toomey (R-PA)
Vitter (R-LA)

Marco Rubio might be trying to revitalize his right-wing cred there by voting against, a "safe" vote in that he knew it was going to pass anyways.
Interestingly, although only 18 of 100 Senators voted against, that still left four states with BOTH Senators voting for financial Armageddon: Alabama, Idaho, Oklahoma and Texas.

285-144 in the House (3 not voting).
Breakdown was 198 Dems and 87 Repubs for, 0 Dems and 144 Repubs against, 2 Dems and 1 Repub not voting.
It'll be interesting to track the 87 R's who voted for it and see what kind of primary challenge they face in just a few months.

Ugh, that's almost worse than voting against when it comes to something like this.

I only really hate non-votes because it makes the [YEA]-[NAY] shorthand not add up to 100/435. And that always bugs me greatly. Could please write it as [YEA]-[NAY]-[ABSTAIN] ?
